The Communications Manager supports the day-to-day operations of the museum's Communications department. Reporting to the Director of Communications, this mid-level role is responsible for implementing communication strategies across channels, producing high-quality content, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to promote the museum's exhibitions, events, and initiatives.
Requirements and Key Competencies
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience demonstrating equivalent knowledge and skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to manage multiple projects with precision and efficiency.
- Proven excellence in verbal and written communication.
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Comfort interacting with a diverse range of stakeholders including staff, media, donors, and the general public.

Strategic Communications and Content Development
- Assist in developing and executing communications strategies with the Director of Communications.
- Write copy for a variety of platforms, including the press releases, media communications, museum website, email communications, Cleveland Art (membership magazine), marketing collateral, and other exhibition-related materials.
- Support the Digital Communications Manager by assisting in content creation for social media posts and other digital channels.
- Manage workflow and deadlines for exhibition and campaign communications.
- Respond to media inquiries and coordinate approvals and asset collection for media use.
- Develop and maintain relationships with media outlets, influencers, affiliate groups, and external partners.
- Coordinate and organize photo shoots, including scheduling and liaising with internal teams and photographers.
- Collaborate cross-departmentally to gather communications assets, including fact sheets, images, checklists, and curatorial narratives.
- Assist with posting digital content as needed.
- Attend internal planning and programming meetings and represent the museum on external committees when appropriate.
- Track and report on media coverage, campaign performance, and internal communication initiatives.
Salary range: $50,000 - $55,000, Full-time work is 35 hours per week; occasional overtime might be necessary.
