Job Summary The Sr. Director of Tax will serve as the chief tax strategist and compliance lead for the enterprise. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will oversee all aspects of federal, state, and international tax. Given our labor‑intensive business model and expansive geographic footprint, this role requires a leader who can navigate complex payroll‑related tax credits, nexus issues in 40+ states, WOTC & EZ credits, and sophisticated international frameworks like Transfer Pricing, Pillar Two and BEAT.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Global Tax Planning

Design and implement tax strategies that align with the long‑term goals of a closely‑held family business, focusing on wealth preservation, optimal tax structures, and efficient capital redeployment.

Manage the complexities of Transfer Pricing across North America, LATAM, and Africa to ensure compliance and optimize the global effective tax rate (ETR).

Proactively monitor and manage impacts of BEAT (Base Erosion and Anti‑Abuse Tax) and OECD Pillar Two global minimum tax requirements.

Ensure compliance and manage risk across the enterprise and local jurisdictions.

Domestic & State Operations

Oversee tax compliance for a complex, multi‑state footprint (40+ states), ensuring accurate nexus determination and apportionment.

Collaborate with HR and Payroll to optimize tax strategies related to our 36,000+ person labor force, including Work Opportunity Tax Credits (WOTC) and other labor‑based incentives.

Manage property tax and indirect tax (Sales & Use) exposures common in high‑headcount, physical‑service industries.

International Tax & Transfer Pricing

Direct all tax activities for international subsidiaries, specifically navigating the unique regulatory environments in emerging markets in Africa and LATAM.

Ensure accurate reporting of foreign earnings, FBAR, and relevant international tax disclosures.

Optimize tax structures by considering treaty nations, minimization of DWT, VAT, etc.

Design and oversee the Company’s transfer pricing strategy, ensuring alignment with the business operating model and regulatory expectations.

Oversee intercompany pricing for services, royalties, cost‑sharing, and commissions, including policy development, documentation, and defense.

Partner with Legal and Finance to support intercompany agreements and global profit allocation.

Monitor and manage permanent establishment risks and cross‑border tax exposures.

Compliance & Reporting

Ensure timely and accurate global tax compliance (federal, state, local, and international).

Oversee income tax accounting and reporting under ASC 740 / IAS 12, including provisions, disclosures, and uncertain tax positions.

Lead preparation and review of tax filings, audits, and statutory reporting requirements.

Coordinate with Accounting on close processes and financial statement impacts, including audit provision, footnote disclosures, and any FIN 48 risks.

Manage tax audits and disputes with tax authorities.

Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess impact to the business.

Ensure alignment with internal policies.

Leadership & Executive Partnership & Process Improvement

Build, mentor, and lead corporate tax team (direct and indirect tax).

Act as primary tax liaison with external advisors, auditors, and tax authorities.

Collaborate closely with Legal, Accounting, Treasury, FP&A, Payroll, and business leaders.

Present tax matters to the CFO.

Set performance expectations for tax department, provide strategic direction, and ensure succession planning for key tax roles.

Manage and optimize relationships with external advisors to ensure high‑quality support and cost effectiveness.

Drive automation and process optimization across tax compliance and reporting.

Leverage tax technology and data analytics to improve accuracy, efficiency, and transparency.

Education

Master’s in Taxation or JD/LLM in Tax preferred; CPA required.

Experience

12+ years of progressive tax experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a $500M+ revenue company.

Deep knowledge of US GAAP (ASC 740), Transfer Pricing, and international tax treaties.

Experience in Big 4 plus labor‑intensive industries (Security, Facilities, Logistics, or Healthcare) is highly preferred.

Ability to translate complex tax code into actionable business insights for non‑tax executives and family stakeholders.
