ABM Technical Services (ATS) is seeking a
hands-on Director of FP&A
for its largest business segment — a
$500M+ construction and electrical contracting division . This role combines strategic financial leadership with deep operational engagement, supporting project execution, financial planning, cost control, and performance improvement across a dynamic, project-driven organization. The Director serves as the primary financial partner to the segment President and operational leadership, driving profitability, accountability, and disciplined growth. This leader will be directly involved in project forecasting, margin analysis, working capital management, and process improvement, while also overseeing financial governance and reporting. This position currently manages one team member, with the opportunity to expand as the business continues to grow. Key Responsibilities Financial Operations & Project Support Serve as a
trusted financial partner
to operational leaders, project managers, and contract teams, ensuring financial clarity and accountability across all active projects. Lead monthly and annual forecasting cycles, focusing on project-level profitability, backlog health, and risk mitigation. Review and validate project financials — including revenue recognition, job cost reporting, and cash flow forecasting — to ensure accurate, timely insights for decision-making. Strengthen project forecasting for large and complex construction and electrical contracts, improving visibility into margins and cash flow performance. Business Performance Management Drive consistent and reliable financial performance by identifying trends, opportunities, and risks within the segment. Develop and refine reporting tools that give operational leaders better insight into controllable profitability, labor productivity, and overhead efficiency. Partner with operations and estimating teams on
contract pricing, change orders, and cost recovery strategies
to protect and expand margins. Controls, Process Improvement & ERP Transformation Oversee the segment’s adherence to
US GAAP
and ABM accounting policies while identifying areas to streamline reporting and reduce controllership risk. Play a key leadership role in the
ERP transformation , ensuring financial processes are standardized, automated, and aligned with project execution needs. Improve forecasting and month-end processes to shorten cycle times and enhance accuracy. Strategic and Operational Leadership Support long-term planning, business integration, and growth initiatives, ensuring financial strategies align with the operational realities of the construction and electrical contracting environment. Actively participate in leadership meetings and business reviews, helping to set performance goals and drive accountability throughout the organization. Serve as a financial advisor in
capital planning, equipment investment, and resource allocation decisions . Team Development & Culture Lead and mentor a small, high-performing finance team, instilling a culture of ownership, accuracy, and continuous improvement. Promote close collaboration between finance, accounting, and field operations to ensure financial alignment across the business. Qualifications Required 7+ years
of progressive experience in finance or accounting within
construction, electrical contracting, or project-based industries . Strong understanding of
project accounting, job costing, and revenue recognition
principles. Demonstrated ability to work closely with project and operations leaders to drive financial performance. Proven track record in
forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis
for large capital or construction projects. Advanced proficiency in
Microsoft Excel
and strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with
Power BI ERP integration experience supporting financial operations and data accuracy. Hands-on leadership style — proactive, adaptable, and detail-oriented. Preferred Experience with
ERP systems
such as Oracle, JD Edwards, or NetSuite. CPA
and/or
MBA
preferred. Background in both finance and accounting roles, with a mix of field and corporate experience. Leadership Attributes Hands-on leader who balances strategy with operational execution. Comfortable working in fast-moving, project-oriented environments. Proactive problem solver who identifies risks early and drives corrective action.
