Control Systems Specialist

Position Overview The Control Systems Specialist will support the Control Management Systems (CMS) team with Operational Technology Asset Management (OTAM) initiatives across the power generation fleet. This role focuses on data collection, validation, and management of control system assets, working closely with Distributed Control System (DCS) engineers and vendors to ensure accurate OTAM registry documentation. This is not a traditional hands-on engineering role, but it requires a strong engineering background, particularly in controls systems and power generation environments.
Key Responsibilities
Support OTAM (Operational Technology Asset Management) requirements by reviewing and updating the OTAM asset registry Analyze existing OTAM data and validate it against vendor documentation Identify, categorize, and document control system assets including:
Tag points Equipment details Serial numbers Software and firmware versions
Conduct field evaluations when required to gather missing or incomplete asset data Maintain and update an ongoing OTAM registry, including cybersecurity-related items such as multi-factor authentication and software correlations Collaborate with DCS engineers and other stakeholders to ensure accurate asset categorization Work across fossil, gas, and renewable generation facilities Manage and organize large datasets primarily using Excel Communicate findings clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Required Qualifications
Engineering background (Controls, Electrical, or related discipline) Strong experience with data management and documentation Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel Experience with control systems, preferably DCS Understanding of SCADA and PLC systems (preferred but not required) Ability to identify and categorize technical asset data accurately Excellent written and verbal communication skills NERC and FERC training required
Preferred Experience
Background in power generation, utilities, manufacturing, or renewable energy Experience with control system platforms such as GE, Siemens, or similar Familiarity with OTAM, asset management, or compliance-driven documentation Exposure to long-term control system projects or system upgrades
Additional Information
Field work may be required to validate asset data No coding or programming experience required Candidates must be local to Saginaw or Jackson, MI Interviews will include technical questions using the STAR format
