Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Learn and perform tasks associated with the maintenance and operation of a water distribution system.
Properly use tools and equipment required to perform the job.
Participate in the installation, repair, and replacement of water mains, water services, valves, fire hydrants, and water meters under direction.
Interact with customers and act as a representative of the Company.
Perform basic customer support activities associated with the installation, modification, service, and repair of water distribution equipment and facilities.
Locate water main and service lines.
Install, repair, and replace water mains, water services, water meters, valves, fire hydrants and other water distribution system appurtenances.
Perform routine maintenance activities such as system flushing, valve exercising, and fire hydrant maintenance.
Inspect and test equipment and record accurate details of working order.
Perform fire flow tests and accurately record all data.
Notify customers of scheduled and emergency outages.
Develop and implement shut-downs of the water distribution system for planned and emergency work.
Operate heavy machinery including dump truck and backhoe.
Follow basic safe-work practices including traffic control, personal protective equipment, trench shoring, hazardous materials, confined space, and electrical safety.
Operate company vehicles and equipment according to established safety procedures and policies.
Prepare daily logs and reports on work performed.
Be available for emergency response, 24 hours/day, seven days/week.
May require after‑hour work due to 24‑hour operation.
Must reside within 25 miles of the nearest water system boundary where assigned to respond to emergencies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
General PC skills.
Good written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
Valid California driver license.
Certification Requirements
Water Distribution Operator I – Not applicable.
Water Distribution Operator II – SWRCB Grade 1 Water Distribution Operator Certificate and two years as a Water Distribution Operator I (or equivalent experience).
