As a Principal Associate Risk Advisor in Capital One’s Operational Risk Management (ORM) Department, you will apply your analytical, organizational, risk management, project management, and communication skills to help advance Capital One’s capabilities to effectively manage operational risk. A successful Risk Advisor operates from a foundation of knowledge about the Line of Business with whom they are working, including processes, risks and associated controls, and good risk management practices. Risk Advisors have a broad level of exposure across the lines of business and have the opportunity to work with the business to create and implement solutions to appropriately manage risks within the business divisions.

As an Operational Risk Advisor, you will be responsible for working with business partners to identify and consult on potential risks to the business units. You will collaborate closely with associates across all lines of defense, business units, and other risk management teams to perform and support the work related to further maturing risk management practices. Operational Principal Associate Risk Advisors Risk Advisors are experienced risk managers that serve as the liaisons between ORM and the business divisions.

Responsibilities

Provide 2nd line effective challenge and advice to the 1st line on their execution of various risk assessment processes, including Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSA), Process Level Assessments (PLA), Product Risk Assessment (PRA), Launch initiatives and others.

Ensure results of effective challenge activities are properly documented and communicated, and perform detailed data analysis to identify risks, problem areas, and development/completion of remediation plans.

Serve as subject matter expert to Business Risk Office (BRO) and Independent Risk Management (IRM) functions in the assessment of operational risk.

Collaborate effectively across multiple organizations such as Operational Risk Management, Risk Oversight Programs, Enterprise Risk Management, Business Risk Offices, Internal Audit etc. to achieve objectives.

Build relationships and become a trusted advisor to the first line Business Risk Office.

Actively participate in team oriented efforts to advance the mission of the ORM function.

Be proficient in Enterprise Risk Management’s Risk and Control Standards.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or military experience.

At least 3 years of risk management experience in first, second, or third line of defense.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Business Management, Information Technology, Accounting, or Economics.

4+ years of risk management experience within financial services.

4+ years of risk management, compliance or legal oversight experience with a payments network.

5+ years of Project/Program Management experience leading cross functional programs in Risk.

Experience with payments network operational processes. Experience creating presentations with PowerPoint or Google Slides.

Internal Risk management certification such as: Certified Third-Party Risk Professional (CTPRP), ABA Operational Risk Management.

Salary McLean, VA: $117,300 - $133,900.

Richmond, VA: $106,700 - $121,700.

Riverwoods, IL: $106,700 - $121,700.
