Position Summary
POSTING FOR UNMC EMPLOYEES ONLY
Reports directly to the Chair and serves as the chief administrative officer for the Department of Family Medicine. Responsible for the effective and efficient management of all administrative operations, providing leadership in strategic planning, financial oversight, and organizational vision to support the Department’s long-range goals.
The Administrator has primary responsibility for managing and controlling a $35 million budget, encompassing group practice plan income, state appropriations, contracts and grants, and endowment funds. This role oversees personnel administration for a workforce of 170+ full- and part-time employees (including students, residents, and fellows). Coordinates activities of 240 volunteer faculty and manages space and facilities. Additional responsibilities include ensuring compliance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements, as well as driving operational excellence across all administrative functions.

Salary Range: $85,500 - $136,800/annual

Progressive management experience to include experience with financial and personnel management

Required Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: General business acumen and vision to include common sense, good judgment, negotiation skills, basic accounting, financial statement knowledge including accurate interpretation and analysis, and ability to anticipate and forecast programmatic needs of the business unit/college. Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge
University and healthcare policies, compliance requirements, and institutional regulations.
Budgeting, fiscal management, and grant administration processes.
Human resources practices, including recruitment, performance evaluation, and compensation planning.
Contract negotiation principles and agreement structures.
Technology planning, hardware/software procurement, and implementation.
Clinical operations, including billing, RVU reporting, and professional fee structures.
Skills
Leadership and supervision of faculty and staff.
Strategic planning and alignment of departmental goals with institutional objectives.
Financial analysis and forecasting for fiscal stability.
Strong verbal and written communication for internal and external stakeholders.
Effective negotiation for contracts, space allocation, and provider agreements.
Problem-solving and corrective action implementation in billing, compliance, and operations.
Abilities
Independent decision-making on personnel, financial, and administrative matters.
Adaptability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic academic and clinical environment.
Collaboration with cross-functional teams and external partners.
Accurate data management for budgets, personnel records, and inventories.
