Business Analyst, Data Platforms & Access - Digital Compensation: $90,000 - $95,000 / year

This hybrid role requires work in the NYC office a minimum of three days a week.

Overview The New York Public Library is undergoing a comprehensive Data Transformation. The goal is to better understand patrons, enable staff to make data-driven decisions, and provide clear methods for staff to access data.

We are looking for a Business Analyst to support the Data Platforms & Access team. The role involves gathering and documenting needs from across the library, managing staff-facing platforms (web analytics platform, data warehouse, data visualization tool), and ensuring data governance practices.

Responsibilities

Support the data transformation initiative.

Collaborate with stakeholders to gather business requirements, document workflows, data definitions, and recommend solutions.

Communicate the platform strategy and domain language to NYPL staff.

Collaborate with the Data Analyst to enhance data access.

Maintain operations of data platforms, including Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, and other tools.

Develop documentation, FAQs, office hours, training content; respond to queries.

Expand knowledge of library service data and processes.

Work with Product Management to establish consistent data representation across Digital properties.

Support product managers in documenting product requirements and specifications.

Manage stakeholder working groups and advisory meetings.

Perform other duties as required.

Expectations (Milestones)

1 month

– Understand the Data Transformation initiative; grasp key data types; learn digital department structure; meet stakeholders.

3 months

– Be familiar with data ecosystem; deep understanding of data platform suite; gather data requirements; develop relationships with the Patron Insights & Analytics team and other stakeholders.

6 months and beyond

– Deep understanding of data needs; collaborate with Product Managers; own day-to-day operations of data platforms.

Required Education & Certifications

Bachelor’s degree and minimum 3 years’ experience as a business analyst or similar role.

OR 5 years’ experience as a business analyst or similar role.

OR 5 years’ library experience with stakeholder liaison, communications, report writing, data analysis, etc.

Required Experience

Analysis of business needs and recommended solutions.

Documentation of business goals and technical requirements.

Experience with data visualization and business intelligence tools (Tableau, PowerBI, Looker, etc.).

Experience with Google Marketing Platform, Google Cloud Platform products, or similar.

Experience with cloud data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake, AWS, Azure, etc.).

Understanding of web analytics is very helpful.

In-depth experience using Google Sheets or Excel.

Familiarity with library operations is beneficial.

Required Skills

Capturing technical requirements in documentation (data models) tying to business value.
