Job Purpose Manages the daily operations of meat and seafood departments, increasing customer confidence and loyalty by promoting and executing consistent and compliant operating conditions. Provides fresh and appealing products, courteous, knowledgeable and prompt service. Executes merchandising plans, teaches and trains meat cutters, and maintains core assortment and meat case flow. This is a working management position requiring physical labor, delegation, team building, leadership, planning, and administrative work.
Key Performance Indicators
Department OSAT – Gauges the customer experience in each respective area of the business: Assortment, Cleanliness, Freshness, Staff Friendliness and Stock Availability.
Sales to Purchase % – Ensures the department is profitable by forecasting correctly and ordering as needed.
Production Planning Compliance % – Positions the department for strong sales by providing good information into the system.
Essential Responsibilities
Service (40%)
– Creates an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated to build and retain customer confidence and loyalty. Ensures the department is merchandised per plan, delivers daily conditions that meet at‑shelf product availability, freshness, quality and value. Trains associates on freshness, inventory levels, stocking and ordering, and offers assistance in finding or suggesting products. Ensures customer requests and special orders are fulfilled.
Leadership (30%)
– Promotes trust and respect among associates, collaborates, promotes teamwork, and communicates company, department and job specific information. Establishes goals for merchandising, sales and profits and empowers the team to exceed them. Works with store leadership to hire associates and manage performance and development. Manages schedules to ensure tasks are completed in a cadence that ensures the highest levels of customer service during peak hours. Adheres to all laws and company guidelines.
Financial (15%)
– Completes daily and weekly administrative tasks (communications, online training, scheduling, pricing changes, orders, etc.). Maintains awareness of inventory/stocking conditions and reports discrepancies. Reviews and inspects products for quality and freshness, plans, organizes, and performs the inventory process, and ensures discarding or markdown processes are followed to reduce shrink. Maintains product temperature per food safety guidelines and retains documentation of temperature logs.
Compliance/Safety (15%)
– Ensures company standards for safety, food handling, sanitation and productivity are maintained. Adheres to regulatory compliance requirements (USDA, COOL, DOA). Executes product recalls and withdrawals promptly. Reinforces safety programs, inspects for unsafe conditions, reports accidents, and maintains safety training. Ensures hazardous assessments are posted, PPE is available, and equipment is in good repair.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Must be 18 years of age; authorized to work in the United States; successful completion of pre‑employment drug testing and background check; strong customer service, interpersonal, motivational and communication skills; knowledge of basic math; ability to handle stressful situations; knowledge of cutting, traying, wrapping, and labeling; adequate knife handling skills; proficiency with computer applications; possession of Food Safety Certification or ability to obtain within 180 days.
Environmental Factors Retail – Meat/Seafood: Physical demands include standing or walking on various types of flooring, manual dexterity, repetitive hand movements, reaching, lifting loads up to specified weights, occasionally sitting, kneeling, or climbing. Working conditions include indoor, outdoor, cold, freezing, heated, and wet/humid environments. Safety risk factors include twists, slips, handling sharp objects, loud noise, irritants, and hazardous cleaning solutions. Required equipment includes cleaning supplies, general office equipment, register, pricing gun, scales, scanner, material handling equipment, baler/compactor, tools, Ice machine, shovel, powered cutting equipment, knives, wrapper, lobster tank, and personal protective equipment such as goggles, gloves, and back brace. Lifting requirement: 250 lbs. Pulling requirement: 70 lbs.
Travel & Overnight Travel Percent: Occasional. Overnight: No.
Shift(s) Varied shifts, includes 3–4 evening (prime time) shifts each week.
