Position Overview The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections is actively seeking dedicated and conscientious Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). As an employee of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections’ Health Care Team, you will assist in providing quality care to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Offender Population. LPNs will apply clinical nursing skills, perform hands‑on assessments, and assist practitioners and RNs on a daily basis.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with initial screenings, medication administration, health care emergencies, and physical health assessments.
Maintain department compliance for inspections, participate in in‑service training, and provide health‑related education to staff and Offenders.
Perform hands‑on assessments and assist practitioners and RNs on a daily basis.
Qualifications
Active authorization to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Pennsylvania.
If you are within 60 days of completing a licensed practical nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply.
All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
Pass a background investigation and meet CJIS compliance requirements.
Work Schedule and Additional Information
Full‑time employment, 40‑hour work week.
The Department of Corrections is staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
1st shift: 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; 2nd shift: 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.; 3rd shift: 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $67,558.00 before taxes.
Compensation and Benefits Payment is made through the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. Base salary is $63,807.00. Additional benefits include health insurance, retirement benefits, paid time off, and opportunities for professional development.
