Hospice On-Call Nurse Responsibilities:
Emergency Response:
Provide skilled nursing interventions to manage symptoms, pain, and urgent needs during
evening and overnight hours
Telephonic Support:
Offer compassionate, knowledgeable guidance to families and caregivers over the phone
Care Coordination:
Work with the interdisciplinary team to ensure smooth, coordinated care transitions
Emotional Comfort:
Provide emotional and psychological support during end-of-life moments
Medication Management:
Administer medications and ensure adherence to hospice protocols
Documentation:
Maintain detailed and timely records of patient care interactions
Qualifications:
RN Licensure:
Active Registered Nurse license in Minnesota
Hospice Expertise Required:
Deep understanding of hospice principles, practices, and symptom management
Compassionate Nature:
Empathy and dedication to supporting families and patients through the end-of-life journey
Critical Thinking:
Ability to assess urgent situations and make confident clinical decisions
Strong Communication Skills:
Clear, compassionate communication—both verbal and written
Availability:
Flexibility and reliability for evening, overnight, and weekend on-call responsibilities
