Shimadzu Scientific Instruments is hiring a
GC Service Engineer
based at our Columbia, MD headquarters. This role is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Gas Chromatography instruments. You will support internal teams and external customers by ensuring Shimadzu GC systems operate reliably and meet performance standards across a range of laboratory applications.
JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Install, maintain, and troubleshoot Shimadzu GC instrumentation
Provide technical training to end-users and junior service personnel
Perform chromatogram analysis and verify system performance accuracy
Document repairs, recommend product improvements, and maintain service logs
Develop preventive maintenance procedures and recommend parts inventory levels
Support the Corporate Service Center for in-house GC repairs as needed
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, or related technical field required
3+ years of hands‑on experience servicing GC instruments (Shimadzu preferred)
Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, mechanical, and software components
Ability to interpret chromatograms and support application‑level performance
Exceptional communication, documentation, and customer service skills
Proficiency with technical reporting and service documentation software

This full‑time, non‑exempt position comes with a comprehensive benefits package. In your first year, you will receive 10 paid vacation days, 8 paid personal days, 8 paid scheduled holidays and 3 paid floating holidays (Residents of California and Puerto Rico will receive state‑mandated sick leave instead of personal days). After one year of employment, you will also be eligible for a generous short‑term disability program with the company covering 100 % of monthly premiums.
The starting salary range for this role is $87,000 to $89,000 annually, paid semi‑monthly. As a non‑exempt position, you will be eligible for overtime and double time pay, as outlined in our employee handbook. Additional variable compensation may include a discretionary year‑end bonus based on overall company performance.
