Position Peer Support Specialist II
Job Type PRN / Non‑Exempt
Shift Details 7:00am – 7:30pm / 7:00pm – 7:30am (required to work two 12‑hour shifts per month) | Availability to attend court hearings when listed as a witness on a petition.
Work Setting Crisis - Recovery Response Center; Peoria, AZ
Salary/Hourly Wage $19.50 – $23.50/hr

Summary of Job The Peer Support Specialist II provides support and recovery training to individuals receiving services. The role also assists in creating and implementing a recovery environment, and acts as an advocate for the needs and rights of each participant. Support includes resume building, job searching, and recovery planning.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Guest Care & Advocacy: Provides coaching, mentoring, and role‑modeling to peer support staff; facilitates professional development training opportunities.
Provides support for participant wellness, groups, and activities that strengthen recovery.
Ensures all program elements and expectations are being met.
Engages participants in a recovery partnership; helps identify hopes, dreams, and solutions.
Teaches recovery and life skills using recovery tools.
Models hope, personal responsibility, and self‑advocacy to demonstrate how recovery goals can be met.
Cultivates connectedness in the participant’s life (self, others, environment, meaning, and purpose).
Compliance & Risk Management: Completes clinical notes and facilitates documentation, transfers, and transition of guest care.
Stays abreast of all federal and state regulations, policies, and procedures; complies with Recovery Innovations standards, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policies.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Assists with initial introductions to clinical team, coordinates services or resources, facilitates transportation and community integration.
Develops and maintains positive working relationships with team members.
Additional Duties: Creates peer‑level curriculum and facilitates group activities; performs other related duties as assigned.
Outpatient Programs: Aids participants with resume building, job searching, recovery planning, and healthy living support.
Job Requirements
Education/Licenses: Successful completion of Peer Employment Training and obtaining Certification as a Peer Support Specialist; High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Lived experience requiring mental health and/or substance use services; two (2) years full‑time behavioral health experience; additional training in peer‑related topics; experience in community navigation, resume writing, curriculum development, and family peer support.
Skills: Basic computer skills; ability to teach and train recovery information and tools; effective communication skills; must pass de‑escalation training as defined by state requirements.
Driving Requirements: If driving is required, must meet all Recovery Innovations driving policy requirements; otherwise a Non‑Driver Attestation must be signed.
Miscellaneous: Applicants must be at least 18 years old unless a different minimum age requirement applies; travel required based on business need; maintain confidentiality (HIPAA) and professionalism; Second‑Chance Employer: Must pass a seven‑year background check, substance‑abuse testing (if applicable), education verification, fingerprinting clearance, and, if driving, a three‑year motor vehicle report.
Physical Demands May include close‑eye work, wrist and hand motions, finger dexterity; frequent sitting, standing, walking, handling; use of corrected vision and auditory senses. May be required to lift up to twenty (20) pounds.
Work Environment May work in an office environment or behavioral health facility; may have contact with individuals who are agitated and / or confused.
ADDENDUM – Arizona Must be 21 years or older. Required to attend court hearings when listed as a witness on a petition.
ADDENDUM – California Must obtain Certified Medi‑Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification (CMPSS) within thirty (30) days of hire. Two (2) years full‑time behavioral health experience preferred but not required for the Art Works Program. Art‑related experience is required to support the Art Works program.
ADDENDUM – Louisiana Must be 24 years or older.
ADDENDUM – North Carolina – Peer Navigator Proof of valid and unrestricted Driver’s License and up to‑date vaccination records (childhood vaccinations included). Willingness to provide proof before hire.
ADDENDUM – Washington Additional specified state registration for Registered Agency Affiliated Counselor (AAC).
