Position Summary This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and the standards of professional nursing practice. The position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under their direction, utilizing specialized knowledge and judgement to assess data and plan, provide, and evaluate care appropriate to the patient's age and condition.
Essential Functions
Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural and post-operative planning needs. Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family and ensures completion within appropriate timeframe. Reviews available information from other health care team members and diagnostics; reports abnormal results.
Formulates a plan of care, including the discharge plan, based on assessment data and input from patient, family and health team. Goals are realistic, measurable, developed with patient/family, and consider patient-specific needs.
Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the health care team. Provides care based on orders and nursing plan, in compliance with policies, standards, and regulatory requirements. Promotes continuity of care by communicating accurately to other caregivers.
Evaluates the patient’s and family's response to care and teaching; revises the plan of care as needed. Evaluates patient progress toward goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with the team.
Documents assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record, ensuring legible, timely documentation. Notes orders accurately.
Provides evidence-based care and may participate in research activities within clinical practice. Participates in shared leadership and the orientation of staff, patients, students, families.
Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes and participates in improvement of national nursing quality indicators.
May provide relief charge for staff and workflow of the department in some locations.
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.
Provides all customers with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating core and leader behaviors.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s Degree or higher in Nursing.
Current, valid RN license in state of practice or compact RN licensure.
BLS and ACLS required.
PALS certification required within 90 days if assigned ASC services pediatrics.
Minimum one-year licensed RN experience in PreOp/PACU (i.e., ICU, ED) for full-time/part-time.
Licensed RN with no PreOp/PACU experience and enrolled in Perianesthesia Academy with successful completion within 4 months.
New licensed RN enrolled in the Perianesthesia Academy with successful completion within 4 months.
PRN: Minimum two years licensed RN experience in PreOp/PACU.
Preferred Qualifications
PreOp/PACU licensed RN experience strongly preferred.
