Position Summary Responsible for all maintenance practices of the golf course and practice facilities. Includes training new employees, equipment operation while maintaining club standards and adherence to human resources procedures. Assures that member services and playing conditions meet standards, manages safety and administrative duties, and supervises 40+ employees to achieve club goals.

Responsibilities

Daily planning, scheduling and supervision of golf course maintenance personnel.

Construction and maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers and associated support facilities.

Supervision of repair and maintenance of mechanical and motorized equipment.

Instruction of equipment operators in safe, efficient operation and care of mowing and other equipment.

Supervision and participation in the operation and maintenance of pumps, irrigation and drainage systems.

Assistance with employee evaluations, employee safety and employee discipline.

Monitoring of daily golf course setup, inspection and evaluation.

Departmental authority for practice and procedures during superintendents and/or directors absence.

Inspection of all quality standard areas.

Supervision of employees.

Evaluation of daily labor records.

Scheduling and conducting safety and staff meetings.

Participation in safety management meetings and enforcement with staff.

Approval of equipment schedules.

Conducting inventory controls: chemical, irrigation, fertilizer, topdressing, drainage materials and construction materials.

Providing input to director for budget and department needs.

Training of new and existing employees: job function, equipment operation, safety requirements, guest service standards and departmental information.

Implementation of agronomic programming: fertilization, chemical and cultural practices.

Final daily course evaluation and inspection.

Collaboration with human resources, supervisors and employees to maintain a positive work environment including communication, training, discipline, and evaluations.

Authority to expend overtime hours as needed to meet quality standards upon approval of director of agronomy/golf course maintenance.

Initiation of purchase orders for golf course supplies including accessories, chemicals, fertilizers and topdressing.

Constant communication with all departments to accomplish all scheduling needs of each golf course and its operations.

Communication with other departments regarding events.

Work with the Human Resources Department concerning all employees discipline, evaluations, onboarding, interviewing, terminations, safety training and related personnel concerns and procedures.

Evaluation of products and services relative to present and future needs.

Enforcement of Quail Ridge policies and procedures for staff.

Provision of conflict resolution and counseling to employees.

Attendance at required committee and management meetings as a Quail Ridge staff representative.

Performed position with high standards, integrity and in a timely and efficient manner.

Recommendation and significant input regarding group staff on firing, advancement, promotion and other employment changes needed.

Preparation, review and submission of time cards/time records to payroll/HR for department as needed.

Performance of other functions as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures in golf course maintenance/turf maintenance.

Knowledge of the use of turf and landscaping equipment including tractors, mowers, aerifiers, electric motors, etc.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability and willingness to take directions and give/provide directions to staff.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to coordinate and complete tasks with limited supervision.

Self‑starter and eager to learn.

Ability to recognize and solve problems.

Detail‑oriented with time management skills.

Maintenance of high performance standards.

Fluent in reading and writing in English with the ability to recognize signs and symbols on the course and chemical controls.

Effective and tactful interaction with employees, management and members.

Computer skills including use of Windows, Microsoft Office Programs and the Internet.

Education and Experience

AS Degree in turf grass management, golf course management, agronomy, horticulture, plant/soil science or related field and/or equivalent experience required.

Five years of general golf course maintenance assistant superintendent experience required.

Knowledge of irrigation and current chemical practices.

Florida State pesticide license or ability to acquire within 6 months.

Extensive knowledge of all turf equipment.

Basic working knowledge of computer including spreadsheet applications and Microsoft applications.

Thorough knowledge of club standard operating policies and procedures.

Continuing education classes related to golf course maintenance.

Understanding of golf course operations.

Experience with supervision and training of staff.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises 35‑45 GCM work staff.

Light equipment operators.

Heavy equipment operators.

Spray technicians.

Irrigation technicians.

Interns.

Other GCM employees as needed.
