As an Addiction Recovery Counselor, you will oversee all aspects of a patient’s treatment, coordinating care from admission through discharge and follow‑up, and providing comprehensive psychological therapy to address addiction causes and effects.

Responsibilities

Interface with the clinical team in decision‑making processes involving patients and attend all clinical meetings.

Assess the counseling needs of patients and evaluate substance abuse diagnoses using DSM criteria and ASAM criteria.

Obtain and review prior records relevant to the current treatment episode.

Prepare the substance abuse counseling portion of the patient treatment plan and provide related services.

Develop and maintain a patient discharge/continuum of care plan, ensure movement to the appropriate levels of care.

Participate fully as a member of a multidisciplinary team for assigned patients.

Document all counseling and education services, assessments, reassessments, referrals, and follow‑up in the clinical record.

Maintain patient caseload, including case‑management, utilization review, and treatment planning updates.

Provide coordination of support services for patients and families, recording services in the clinical record.

Reassess and revise counseling plans as necessary.

Facilitate family therapy and coordinate with referral sources (legal, school, employer, etc.).

Facilitate crisis‑oriented interventions using a multidisciplinary team approach.

Carry out administrative and clinical functions as requested.

Attend team meetings and complete all required training courses in a timely manner.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in psychology, counseling, or social work from an accredited institution (state requirements apply).

Three (3) years’ experience in substance use, mental health, or a related field.

Licensure or certification for counseling as required by state law (e.g., 12VAC30‑130‑5020).

Valid LCSW, LPC, or LMFT license (preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

LMFT, LPC, or LCSW license.

Ability to make an impact and inspire performance through commitment to organizational success.
