This job coordinates the overall provision of respiratory care, plans, develops, and implements respiratory care programs; sets up all types of positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy as ordered by physicians, educates patients on proper and safe use of equipment, monitors patient compliance data, and conducts patient and physician follow-up on PAP patients as per Departmental Policy and Procedures.

Education Associates degree in Science or related field. Graduate of an AMA-approved school of respiratory therapy.

Work Experience Required – None.

Preferred Experience with Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) therapy (CPAP or BIPAP). Fluency in other language(s).

Certifications Current valid state license/certification as a Certified Respiratory Therapist. BLS – Basic Life Support Certification through American Heart Association.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information. Proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process. Knowledge of respiratory equipment. Reliable transportation to travel to patient homes to set up/monitor respiratory equipment. Ability to be on-call for patients needs.

Job Duties Sets up respiratory and PAP therapy equipment. Monitors patient compliance. Communicates with physicians and serves as a resource on PAP therapy. Participates in process improvement initiatives and resolves patient issues. Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style. Other related duties as required.

Physical and Environmental Demands This role requires medium work: exerts 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly. Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities. No exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue; no need for emergency care or first aid. No occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases. Risks for hazardous medications and waste may occur depending on essential duties.
