Job Title: Automation Engineer
Salary Range:
$100,000 – $130,000 (commensurate with experience) Position Summary
The Automation Engineer will support engineering efforts in the development, build, and implementation of automated manufacturing equipment and processes, while ensuring existing production equipment remains operational. This role is hands-on and highly technical, involving controls programming, panel building, robotics, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, quality, and production efficiency. Key Responsibilities
Assist engineering departments with the design, build, implementation, and refurbishment of new and existing automated manufacturing equipment. Perform panel build and wiring for automation and control systems. Program, troubleshoot, and modify PLCs and control systems, including Allen-Bradley and Siemens platforms. Configure and maintain safety control systems in compliance with applicable standards and OSHA regulations (including lockout/tagout). Support robotic automation, including FANUC robotic MIG welding systems and pick-and-place automation. Bring new jobs online through programming, fabrication, equipment modification, and re-writing based on job specifications. Troubleshoot electrical, controls, and automation issues to quickly restore and maintain production requirements. Assist in developing and implementing systems and processes that improve safety, quality, and production output. Provide technical support to maintenance personnel in diagnosing and correcting electrical and automation-related issues. Maintain and repair electrical and automation equipment as required. Assist with maintaining inventory levels of automation and electrical supplies needed to support production. Participate in MRB and corrective action meetings; assist in developing and implementing corrective action plans. Support the estimating department by providing input on equipment costs, automation scope, and production rates. Follow all applicable IATF 16949 processes and procedures. Work safely at all times and promote a culture of safety across engineering and production teams. Perform other duties as required to support engineering and manufacturing operations. Education, Experience & Training
Bachelor’s degree (4-year) in Engineering or a related field (required). 2–4+ years of experience with automated controls in a manufacturing environment. Hands-on experience with: Panel building and electrical wiring Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC programming Safety controls and systems Robotics (FANUC preferred), including robotic MIG welding Pick-and-place automation New equipment builds and equipment refurbishment Preferred Skills & Competencies
