Perioperative Unit Secretary

As a member of the multidisciplinary perioperative team, the unit secretary provides clerical assistance to the perioperative area to ensure effective communication, accurate and efficient scheduling of procedures and department operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Observe infection control, medical, safety precautions.
- Appropriately use the telephone, paging system and patient communication system.
- Answering the telephone and intercom call, courteously and promptly.
- Responding to questions from families/families and others seeking information.
- Utilizing appropriate customer relations techniques.
- Transferring messages promptly and accurately.
- Maintains open lines of communication at all times as evidenced by:
- Demonstrating an open, approachable manner so that all unit staff feel comfortable.
- Discussing concerns and/or problems as they arise.
- Demonstrating the ability to accept constructive criticism related to behavior and work performance and integrating recommendations into daily work.
- Performs equipment and supply acquisition according to unit procedures.
- This may include ordering dietary items, entering equipment repair requests via software, issuing and/or wearing a portable telephone, checking refrigerator temperature or stocking food items for patients, and a stocking blanket warmer.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalency required.
- Post high-school education preferred (i.e. Bachelor's Degree, Associate Degree, and/ or Certification).
- One to two years of office experience preferred.
- Successful completion of AnMed's Unit Secretary course within 6 months of hire date required.
