Electrical Project Engineer

Insight Global is looking for a full-time Electrical Project Engineer to support one of our clients specializing in advanced materials manufacturing. This engineer will be responsible for providing technical leadership in the development, design, and execution of small to mid-sized capital projects across the Piedmont and Rock Hill facilities. They will also oversee external engineering firms and technical specialists to ensure all project designs align with the client's specifications, standards, and engineering best practices. Additionally, the engineer will collaborate with Production and Maintenance teams to offer electrical design input for ongoing maintenance and reliability initiatives. Approximately two-thirds of the role will focus on capital project work, while the remaining third will support electrical maintenance across both plants. Past projects have included infrastructure upgrades, VFD enhancements, substation replacements and installations, and PLC modifications on extrusion equipment. The role will be evenly split between office-based planning and hands-on field work across both locations. Responsibilities include managing multiple capital and expense projects simultaneously from project concept to implementation and closure, developing project scopes, cost estimates, and schedules with input from Production, Process, and Maintenance engineering teams, leading detailed design efforts for small capital and expense projects, and leading and managing external engineering contractors for large capital project design efforts. The engineer will also develop engineering specifications and bid packages for engineering services, construction labor, and equipment, lead project design reviews with input from multiple departments, provide technical support in reliability issues and assist in troubleshooting process or equipment issues, develop project work plans to identify construction resources for project execution, develop engineering transmittals to communicate project design details to construction, assist construction supervisor with coordination activities for project execution, utilize SAP to manage project spending and equipment setup activities, assist Maintenance and Reliability team to procure capital spares, participate in project PSSRs, commissioning, startup, and training activities, provide support for small projects that require electrical engineering design elements, and participate with cross-functional groups in incident investigations and completion of corrective actions. The engineer will also develop and maintain site project engineering procedures and adhere to all HSE standards, policies, and procedures. Skills and requirements include a four-year degree in Engineering - BS in Electrical Engineering, five years or more of industrial maintenance experience, a solid history of electrical engineering experience involving the design and installation of low to medium voltage electrical equipment and systems, familiarity with DCS systems, PLC systems, interfacing techniques between control platforms, safety interlock testing techniques and requirements, knowledge of instrument to control system communication protocol standards, knowledge of variable frequency drives, familiarity with electrical design/modeling software, knowledge of field instrumentation technology, specification, installation, configuration, and testing, working knowledge of applicable standards relating to electrical systems in a chemical facility, experience with project design and project management, experience in process control and instrumentation design is highly desirable, proficiency in SAP PS (Project Systems) and PM (Plant Maintenance) modules is preferred, and familiarity with Process Safety Management (PSM) standards and practices is a plus.
