Job Goal:
The part-time Contextualized ESOL/CNA teacher is responsible for preparing engaging, active, learner-centered lessons for adult students at low intermediate to advanced levels of English proficiency.
The Somerville Public Schools' Somerville Center for Adult Learning Experiences (SCALE) is seeking a part-time Teacher to teach Contextualized ESOL/CNA class. The teacher will facilitate a contextualized, competency-based approach to teaching and encourage adult learners to be active participants in their own learning. The teacher will collaborate with other program staff to ensure adult learners are equipped with skills to obtain a certified nursing assistant credential The goal of the class is for adult learners to improve their ELL skills while earning an industry recognized credential to secure a job/career as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
Minimum Qualifications: Possession of a current Massachusetts license as a registered nurse (RN) Two years of experience working as a registered nurse (RN) One year of experience working in a long-term care facility Two years of experience in training Certified Nursing Assistant students in the classroom and on the clinic floor Ability to effectively train students as demonstrated:(a) T years of experience in lesson planning, lesson delivery, student evaluation and remediation in a health care setting as an in-service coordinator, staff educator, or other health personnel instructor
Responsibilities Include: Plan / organize and provide appropriate learning experiences within the assigned area of responsibilities. Teach technical skills and knowledge to provide students with the competence to become skilled in their field. Develop lesson plans and organize class time so that demonstration, instruction, hand-on practice, review and final activities can be accomplished within the allotted time. Continuously improves the instruction, curriculum, and equipment in the Health Assisting area with all trends in the field and is fully and properly preparing students for available and emerging jobs. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the student's maturity and interests of the students. Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. Guides the learning process towards the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects to communicate these objectives to students. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy regulation. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence especially as relates to the specific assignment and student grade and subject area appropriateness. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with others. Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students, director and colleagues. Develops positive relationships with an Assisted Living community partners in the area and actively solicits their help, including service on the Program Advisory Board.
Terms of Employment: Part time/Grant funded 1/6/2025 - 10/30/2025 3 evenings per week 9 hours of instruction and 2.5 hours of prep Non-union position Possible Saturday Clinical Rotation
