Every day we combat cruelty by using innovative, scientifically-based strategies including a large-scale spay/neuter program, a free roaming cat initiative, educational outreach programs that teach our children to be humanitarians and a food bank for pets. We also work with police, prosecutors, and lawmakers to make sure animal cruelty laws are enforced and made stronger. Reaching our goal of maintaining a No Kill community involves a 10-point strategy that we have already been following since 2008, under the guidance of the ASPCA. It includes our massive spay/neuter clinic, our free roaming cat initiative and a dedicated medical fund to treat our most critical cases.

Mentorship for new grads with a seasoned Veterinarian team of over 40 years of Shelter Health and Surgical experience! What we need: Reporting to the Chief Veterinary Officer, this position supports the Animal Society in achieving the mission and vision through driving the goals and achievements of the Sam Greer Spay/Neuter Clinic and the Simon Greer Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic. The primary focus will be ensuring spay/neuter goals are met through the daily sterilization of all surgical patients. The quality of patient care is first and foremost. This also includes the maintenance of preventive health programs and medical protocols and ensuring clinic staff are adhering to the proper peri‑operative care of the patients. Must be open to periodically working on the spay/neuter mobile unit which will travel throughout the state of South Carolina.

The ideal candidate will be a person of integrity, loyalty, and who has the capacity for hard work, perseverance, and resiliency.

Performs efficient and effective high‑volume, high‑quality (HVHQ) spay and neuter.

Charleston Animal Society shelter spays and neuters

South Carolina at‑risk shelter spays and neuters

Pit Bull Type Dog (PBTD) spays and neuters in high‑intake areas

Free Roaming Cat (FRC) spays and neuters

Public Spays and Neuters

Secondary duties will include overall shelter health management of animals in the care of Charleston Animal Society.

Occasional travel throughout Berkeley and Charleston County, and occasionally the State and Nation.

Must be a self‑guided individual requiring minimal supervision.

Primary schedule is Monday - Friday, but may include weekdays and/or weekends, including evenings, as appropriate.

Weekly Pay (Wednesdays)

2 medical plans (CAS pays 80% to 90% of plan premiums)
