POSITION SUMMARY Design:
The candidate will lead and oversee a design project(s) from vision through completion, ensuring alignment with client goals, budget, and schedule. This role requires strategic thinking, exceptional client relationship management, and the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, innovative design solutions.
This position manages project scope, schedules, resources, and stakeholder communication. The role supports design teams by organizing workflows, tracking progress, and removing blockers, with less focus on producing design work.
Operations:
The candidate will lead staffing efforts for the studio on their designated projects as well as other studio projects they may not be assigned to. The candidate may occasionally assist with studio operational tasks such as monitoring/ordering supplies, coordinating studio activities, coordinating calendars, and related operational tasks as we are a small team with each team member contributing to the success of the studio.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, architecture, interior design, or related field.
10 years of experience in the environmental graphic design field, or related design field.
Location:
Candidate must work in the Dallas studio. We are in the Bishop Arts District of Dallas.
Desire and ability to travel to out-of-town project locations occasionally.
Proven leadership and team management experience:
Experience with scheduling / staff allocation programs a must.
Ability to oversee end-to-end design process (concept to final delivery), manage timelines, resources, and budgets with direct contact with the client.
Strong organizational, communication, and client relationship skills:
Collaborative team member with good communication skills that works well in an interdisciplinary, fast-paced environment, as well as ability to work autonomously.
Experienced with client presentations and the ability to manage client expectations with clear communications and confident leadership.
Proficiency with design software and project management tools:
Must have experience in leading and managing signage, wayfinding, and placemaking packages with the use of Adobe Creative Suite programs.
Must have experience using resource allocation programs and ability to project hours and schedules of team members.
Ability to balance creative vision with practical project management:
3D rendering skills in Sketch-up or similar desired, but not mandatory. However, an understanding of the processes, required efforts, and ability to staff and art direct a project are required.
Capability to define scope for proposals and additional services for their projects and prepare and/or direct preparation of fee proposals accordingly.
Portfolios/Resumes should demonstrate project scale/complexity, team size and specific contributions to the successful management of the project.
Key Responsibilities:
Manages design, production, and implementation activities.
Supports and reports to the PIC/Assoc PIC and Studio Director to manage the staff and resources for all studio assigned projects and team members.
Serves as a key client contact, fostering strong relationships and ensuring client satisfaction.
Manage / Monitor project budgets, schedules, and resources, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope.
Mentor and guide project teams, providing clear direction and support to designers and consultants.
Coordinate cross-functional team interactions including designers, fabricators, and consultants to maintain project quality and design intent.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, design guidelines, and internal processes.
Oversee project documentation, presentations, and reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
Contribute to business development efforts by identifying non-scoped project requests and supporting proposal writing.
Identify risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle and implement proactive solutions.
