Freight Broker - Carrier Sales The Freight Broker - Carrier Sales co-worker is primarily responsible for building a portfolio of carriers via prospecting, networking, and referrals. The position is a proven non-asset operations professional who will bring a successful record of sourcing carrier capacity and negotiating rates while helping achieve departmental service and profitability goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Establish relationships with both shippers and carriers.
Manages carrier relationships to improve customer service, transit times and transportation costs.
Book carriers on loads in a profitable and efficient manner.
Monitor customer, market, and competitor activity to stay up to date with the market conditions and freight rates.
Negotiate shipping rates with carriers.
Coordinate and monitor the transportation of goods from start to finish. Resolve any problems or complications that arise during the shipping process.
Enter accurate data into the TMS to include carrier and customers rates, reference numbers, pickup and delivery appointment dates and times, arrival and departure dates and times, as well as any applicable accessorial charges.
Ensure compliance to meet CWI Transportation carrier vetting, shipping regulations and safety standards.
Monitor and audit carrier performance to ensure service standards are being met. Provide an overall account analysis of each carrier in preparation of budgets with projections for revenue and purchased transportation expenses.
Ensures the accurate and timely preparation, processing, distribution and retention of all necessary reports and records on a quarterly basis.
Apply mathematical concepts to achieve gross margin goal and meet or exceed weekly/monthly organizational goals.
Always represent the Company in a professional, moral, and ethical manner.
Performs related work and other job assignments as required.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree in business, Logistics, or related field preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Minimum 2 years of experience in the transportation brokerage industry, required.
Proficient use of computer software, utilizing Microsoft office.
Ability to become a proficient user of CWI Transportation Management System (TMS), DAT Load Board and DAT Rateview
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Demonstrated work ethic, customer-facing skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills required.
Collaborative nature with cross-functional teams and ability to maintain effective relationships with carriers.
Ability to manage stressful situations and high volume.
Physical Requirements
Ability to successfully perform the essential job functions including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative standards.
Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
Ability to maintain regular, punctual on-site attendance and flexibility to be on-call as needed.
