Project Engineer Project Engineer is a critical technical and administrative role supporting the Project Manager and Superintendent in planning, coordinating, and executing construction projects from initiation through closeout. This position ensures that all administrative, financial, and technical aspects of the project are managed with precision, quality, and compliance with contract specifications.

Base Pay Range $125,000.00/yr - $140,000.00/yr

We are seeking a candidate with underground utilities and grading experience, strong technical skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced field environment.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain Submittal Logs, RFI Logs, and drawing registers.

Prepare, track, and expedite RFIs and Submittals; ensure timely communication to field teams and subcontractors.

Keep plans, specifications, and contract documents current; maintain accurate as‑builts.

Attend project meetings and assist with meeting minutes distribution.

Assist with quantity take‑offs, cost coding, and budget analysis.

Process Owner and Subcontractor Change Orders as directed.

Support monthly owner billings and invoice coding.

Coordinate material orders, delivery schedules, and procurement logs.

Planning & Field Coordination

Develop and update project schedules and look‑ahead plans.

Provide interpretation of plans and specifications to ensure compliance.

Support QC documentation and site safety procedures.

Manage contract closeout, including O&M manuals, warranties, and as‑built documentation.

Oversee trenching, utility installation, backfilling, compaction, and shoring efforts.

Verify grading contours, drainage slopes, and compaction testing to ensure quality compliance.

Coordinate with inspectors, utility agencies (e.g., PG&E), and regulatory authorities.

Maintain trench safety protocols and daily safety inspections.

Collect test results (compaction, pressure tests, CCTV sewer inspections) for closeout documentation.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education:

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline OR PMP certification.

Experience:

2‑4 years (or 4‑8 years) of experience with a California general contractor, preferably in underground utilities and grading projects.

Technical Proficiency:

Familiarity with project management software (Viewpoint, CMiC) and scheduling tools (Primavera P6).

Software Skills:

Proficient in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Communication:

Strong verbal and written skills for interaction with clients, designers, subcontractors, and field personnel.

Problem Solving:

Ability to analyze complex project issues and develop effective solutions.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to navigate construction sites and access all work areas safely.

Experience with heavy civil, grading, and underground utility projects in California.

Knowledge of local regulations and permitting processes.
