Job Summary The Registered Dental Assistant performs duties such as: preparing the patient for treatment, assisting the dentist in restorative dentistry or oral surgery, preparing materials and equipment, taking x-rays, assisting with laboratory work, and performing other related tasks as needed. The role also includes scheduling appointments, answering phones, ordering supplies, and handling dental billing.
Job Duties
Greets patients in the waiting area and escorts them to the operatory.
Assists the dentist in the administration of treatment at the chair side as directed.
Promotes an atmosphere supportive of good dental and general health by demonstrating good oral hygiene, inquiring about home care, and instructing patients on flossing and brushing techniques.
Maintains a sterile and neat working environment according to infection control procedures.
Reviews health history, makes chart entries under the operator’s direction, and ensures completion of forms and signatures.
Assumes responsibility for any expanded duties delegated by the dentist.
Familiarizes patients with their visit and provides support and compassion as needed.
Stocks operatories and maintains clinical supply inventory.
Reviews the daily schedule to set up appropriate trays and instruments.
Assists in front office procedures when time permits or as directed by the Chief Dental Officer or Dentist.
Supervises preventive maintenance of dental equipment.
Serves as supply liaison, communicating with purchasing and vendors to ensure prompt receipt of all orders.
May perform procedures such as obtaining endodontic cultures, drying canals, testing pulp vitality, placing bases and liners on sound dentin, removing excess cement, sizing crowns, temporary cementation, placement of orthodontic separators, ligation of arch wires, placing dressings, taking bite registrations for diagnostic models, and coronal polishing.

Other Duties
HIPAA compliance – maintain knowledge of and adherence to all HIPAA regulations and treat member information confidentially.
Compliance – ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
QA/QI – participate in QA/QI activities and contribute to overall performance improvement.
IT – learn and use the Electronic Health Record and Practice Electronic System and its components as required.
All employees participate in the Patient Centered Health Home Model at Omni Family Health.
Qualifications, Education, and Experience
High school graduate (or GED).
Proof of completing a radiation safety course.
One-year experience as a dental assistant.
Certification as a Registered Dental Assistant required.
Certificates for coronal polishing and sealants required.
Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Demonstrate knowledge of dental health education subjects.
Ability to communicate in English and Spanish.
