RN Charge PCU FT Days - Position Summary

The Clinical Lead is a registered nurse who assists the nurse manager/director in coordination, direction, throughput and evaluation of patient care, unit activities and staff activities and performance on an assigned shift. Incorporates knowledge of the nursing process and professional standards of nursing in daily practice. Applies knowledge of patient requirements, growth, and development to effectively make assignments and interventions. Facilitates the provision of consistent care based on changing needs of patients on unit. Manages clinical and non-clinical activities on the unit in absence of the unit manager/director. Coordinates all unit activities for smooth operation in the absence of the unit manager/director. Responsibilities Supports, evaluates, prioritizes, and supervises patient care and unit needs during assigned shift. Serves as designee for unit matters in nurse manager/director absence. Makes assignments for staff to meet patient care needs and for incoming patients. Makes patient assignments and delegates unit specific task assignments to ensure patient care and unit needs are met. Monitors effectiveness and completion of unit assignments. Evaluates staffing by considering mix of caregivers, patient volumes (current and anticipated), patient acuity and staff availability. Demonstrates timely and effective communication skills in daily interactions with team members and others. Performance Improvement/Quality: proactively improves quality of services and patient care outcomes. Serves as unit champion and resource to staff for quality and patient safety initiatives and issues. Uses change management methods to support improvement activities. Represents unit in service recovery efforts and provides exceptional customer service. Teacher/Mentor: enhances staff performance through coaching and precepting; assists with quality projects and staff annual evaluations. Troubleshoots issues requiring immediate resolution and keeps nurse manager/director informed of actions and outcomes. On shifts not in clinical lead/charge nurse role, takes patient care assignments, serves as preceptor or other roles as needed. Represents unit or nursing department on committees or task forces as assigned. Reinforces the organization vision, mission and values through role model behavior. Education, Licensure, Certifications, and Experience Education : Required - Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing. Preferred: BSN (not required). Licensure : Required - Valid current Arizona Nursing License. Certificates : Required in area of clinical specialty within 3 years from ANCC or other approved credentialing entity (e.g., CCRN). Experience : Required - Minimum 1 year RN clinical experience; 1 year ICU experience required (Neuro ICU preferred). Skills : Use of general patient care equipment and unit-specific equipment; ability to adapt to changes in healthcare technology; effective verbal and written communication. Knowledge : Nurse Practice Act. Technology : Basic computer skills. Other: Must be able to work variable shifts, holidays, and/or weekends.
