Job Summary Provide appropriate, efficient and timely pre‑hospital advanced, intermediate and basic life support care and transportation of the sick and injured in accordance with local, state, national and Acadian Ambulance standards of practice.

Equipment Ambulance, stretcher, folding stretcher, scoop stretcher, long spine boards and KED; spinal immobilization equipment; radios and computerized communications equipment; splinting devices; suction devices; bandaging materials; oxygen bottles and tubings; advanced airway devices; glucometer; IV fluids equipment; cardiac monitor / defibrillator; pulse oximeter; fire extinguisher; extrication tools; simple mechanics tools; blood pressure cuff; stethoscope; patient restraints; traction devices; and additional medical equipment as introduced.

Duties and Responsibilities

Conduct a thorough examination of the patient for signs and symptoms of illness or injury.

Administer basic, intermediate and advanced life support care within licensure limits and protocols.

Handle patient with care to and from the ambulance.

Transport patient safely to a medical facility.

Transfer patient and care information to receiving personnel.

Document patient condition and treatment on EMS run reports; complete additional required documentation.

Perform regular unit inventory and equipment testing.

Complete post‑transport duties to return ambulance and equipment to service.

Keep full knowledge of ambulance equipment and use it properly.

Report required repairs to maintenance and supervisors.

Use basic extrication tools when no other qualified personnel are present.

Control patient’s surroundings to minimize danger and influence bystander actions.

Operate the ambulance safely in all settings, observing company driving guidelines.

Follow FCC regulations for electronic communications.

Attend all mandatory meetings.

Complete station and ambulance duty assignments (washing, waxing, cleaning).

Order supplies from Central Supply.

Maintain required company reports and logs.

Act as Field Training Officer to train new employees and precept EMT‑Basic, Intermediate and Paramedic students.

Meet and fulfill qualifications of Emergency Medical Technician – Basic and Intermediate job descriptions.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands Stand, walk, sit, talk or hear, use hands for fine and gross motor tasks, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, reach with hands and arms, taste or smell. Weight lifting up to 10 lbs for none, up to 25 lbs, up to 50 lbs, up to 100 lbs; more than 100 lbs not required.

Work Environment Hazardous materials calls, electrical emergencies, vehicular accidents, outdoor emergencies, hurricanes, tornadoes, industrial accidents, environments with heavy extrication tools, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold or heat, risk of electrical shock, explosives, radiation, vibration. Noise ranges from moderate to very loud.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.

National and/or State certification as a Paramedic.

Current CPR certification per AHA.

Current ACLS certification per AHA.

Valid state‑issued driver’s license (equivalent to Louisiana Class “D”).

Ability to read, write and communicate professionally; write simple correspondence; present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings.

Knowledge of company protocols, operational procedures and safety policies.

Ability to drive large vehicles in normal and adverse conditions.

Preferred additional certifications: NALS, PALS, PHTLS, PEEP, Instructor.
