Job Overview Ultrasound Technologist provides diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. The Ultrasound Technologist is also responsible for daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment. The Ultrasound Technologist always maintains a high standard of medical ethics and is self-motivated to increase the level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease and new procedures as they evolve.
Qualifications
High School Graduate
Completion of an approved Ultrasound program that meets the requirements set by the RDMS or an Associate's degree in Ultrasound Technology
Minimum 1-2 years of experience as a staff technologist
Strong manual dexterity and the ability to interpret sonographic images
Certifications and Licenses Required
Must be certified by the RDMS or eligible to become certified within six months of employment
Scheduling Requirements
Evening shift with the ability to work day, night, and weekend shifts
Per Diem
Essential Functions
Assist physicians : Provide technical assistance to radiologists and other physicians during procedures
Data and record-keeping : Document examination data, maintain records, and transfer images to the appropriate systems, such as PACS
Perform diagnostic ultrasound exams : Conduct a variety of scans, such as general, OB/GYN, and vascular, depending on the department's needs
Operate and maintain equipment : Use specialized equipment, ensure it is properly set up, clean, and make minor adjustments to maintain optimal function
Patient care and safety : Position patients comfortably and safely, explain procedures to gain cooperation, and adhere to safety precautions and ALARA principles to minimize radiation exposure
