Watlow is seeking an experienced Staff Engineer to serve as our global subject‑matter expert (SME) for pressure vessel design and electric‑style shell‑and‑tube heat exchange technology. Based in Hannibal, Missouri, this critical role supports the development of electrified heat‑exchanger systems that are central to our renewable energy and decarbonization initiatives. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in ASME code, mechanical design, fabrication processes, and be a trusted technical resource to engineers across the globe. This hands‑on role includes full design ownership—from concept through drawings to shop‑floor collaboration—and offers the opportunity to help shape the next generation of clean thermal technology. Experience with thermal and dynamic heat‑transfer analysis is a strong plus.
Key Responsibilities
Act as the global SME for mechanical design and fabrication of shell‑and‑tube heat exchangers and pressure vessels.
Lead the application of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code (Section VIII) in all relevant designs.
Create and review detailed engineering drawings and documentation.
Collaborate directly with fabrication shops and operations teams to ensure manufacturability, safety, and performance.
Support and mentor global design engineers on pressure‑vessel‑related projects and standards.
Ensure consistency, quality, and innovation across heat‑exchanger platforms worldwide.
Engage with thermal teams to enhance system performance through collaborative design.
Contribute to Watlow’s electrification product roadmap and decarbonization goal.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
10+ years of experience in pressure vessel and shell‑and‑tube heat‑exchanger design.
Deep, working knowledge of ASME Code Section VIII and related pressure‑vessel standards.
Ability to create and review mechanical drawings using CAD tools.
Hands‑on experience working with fabrication teams and operators in a manufacturing environment.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative, mentoring approach.
Familiarity with thermal/dynamic heat‑transfer analysis is a plus.
Passion for sustainable engineering and advancing clean energy technologies.
