Job Description POSITION GOALS
Demonstrate and promote a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.
Public Safety Officers report to, and are under the supervision of, the Executive Director of Public Safety or his/her designee. Their duties include, but are not limited to, crime prevention, protection of life and property, traffic control, investigation, enforcement of college policies and other duties as assigned. Public Safety Officers shall also render appropriate assistance to on‑campus motorists, and assist in emergency messenger service functions. They shall perform other job‑related duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Public Safety or his/her designee.
Public Safety Officers must have a sense‑of‑call interpretation and decision‑making/problem solving skills; must possess or be capable of acquiring the ability to draw reasonable and logical conclusions from information, which may be disjointed. Possess the ability to condense large amounts of information into readable, sensible, written (typed) channels in a calm manner while receiving information. Dispatch the necessary personnel and administrative personnel.
Public Safety Officers will become entirely familiar with the policies, procedures, orders and regulations, vehicles, and equipment of the Public Safety Department and the College, and execute assigned responsibilities in accordance therewith. All decisions and actions relating to security and safety shall be in accordance with approved College policies and/or directives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ability to work directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socio‑economic backgrounds.
Welcome and respond to all inquiries from visitors, students, faculty, and staff and act in a friendly and helpful manner.
Enforce Camden County College standards as they relate to loss prevention and safety procedures.
Monitor designated areas using a range of techniques such as floor‑walking and operating security camera systems.
Conduct surveillance to detect, prevent and assist with the violators of policy and notifying appropriate authorities.
Patrol assigned area by vehicle; bicycle, walking, or other assigned modes of transportation, and perform required duties.
Prepare a Daily Patrol Log, chronologically listing all activities, incidents, and action taken during shift; also, prepare written reports completely on prescribed forms, or word process on a computer.
Issue and process parking decals and tickets.
Participate in ID card checks, investigations, bomb scares, searches, fire drills, and other similar actions after receiving appropriate training.
Render first aid and other medical assistance to the level of your training.
Perform clerical duties as assigned pertaining to the Public Safety operation. Responsible for staffing the Public Safety Department’s service call and complaint desk.
Receive service calls, complaints, and incident reports from students, faculty, staff, campus visitors, and the general public. Accurately record important information for further action.
Monitor emergency telephones, CCTV video, and dispatch personnel in accordance with outlined procedures.
Issues daily situational representations to administrative personnel as well as generates emergency notifications for the College’s emergency management team and predesignated stakeholders.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Public Safety and/or his/her designee.
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/equivalency required – Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice preferred.
Minimum of one‑year experience in the Public safety field, such as security or EMT.
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
Good interpersonal and oral communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the College Community, customers and the general public.
Proficiency, or ability to become proficient, in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook and Excel.
Ability to perform essential job functions during stressful situations.
Certification by the State of New Jersey in CPR and First Aid, or ability to obtain certification during probationary period.
