Culinary Supervisor
– The Study at University of Chicago is currently hiring a full‑time Culinary Supervisor to provide genuine hospitality and the highest quality of service to our guests. We are looking for a candidate who is curious and continuously seeks to expand knowledge of traditional cooking techniques in a guest‑centered environment.
Be a part of the opening team at our British‑inspired gastropub,
Truth be Told , focusing on classic inspirational British cuisine and dishes. The menu will evolve through the seasons, capturing both the casual element and excellent cooking techniques of a traditional tavern. This position is a great opportunity to establish the restaurant as a top dining destination in the Hyde Park area.
Responsibilities
Utilize effective leadership skills to engage, motivate, and develop staff
Identify and communicate training needs to the Executive Chef
Supervise all aspects of the food production while maintaining profitable F&B operations and the highest quality products and service levels
Complete the setup and breakdown of a section, including detailed cleaning of the work area and surrounding areas
Monitor holding and storage operations, stocking, food rotation, and guarantee food service sanitation standards are met
Support training efforts on food execution and all aspects of food safety, sanitation, and quality assurance standards
Maintain the food quality to the Chef’s standards; ensure a consistent product each time
Explain menu items to Front of House team members, understand allergy concerns, and answer general inquiries. Maintain accurate knowledge of all menu items and beverage programs
Know and enforce all local health sanitation laws
Maintain a safe and clean work environment
Maintain accurate knowledge of all menu items
Positively communicate and interact with all hotel departments
Fundamentals
Strong desire to continually learn and a courteous demeanor
Education: High school diploma or GED
Experience: 2+ years in a fine dining or upscale casual environment
Excellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures
Flexibility to work any shift, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills
Proficiency in English required; a second language is desirable
Strong organizational skills, follow‑up, time management, ability to multi‑task and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
Ability to positively communicate and interact with all hotel departments
Ability to lift or carry, or otherwise move goods weighing a maximum of 50 lbs
