Responsibilities
Maintain positive, effective communication with providers, supervisors, peers, and subordinates
Procure specimens proficiently, i.e., venipuncture, heel‑stick, finger stick, and patient instructions for the collection of other body fluids
Be knowledgeable regarding universal precautions and aseptic technique
Process specimens for testing or shipment to a regional lab
Perform proper collection procedure for DOT drug screens, chain‑of‑custody, and routine collections
Be knowledgeable about processing specimens (e.g., insurance, filling out requisitions, logging contact numbers, retaining three months of lab results, etc.)
Limit venipunctures and report to the supervisor any problems relating to the routine function of the lab
Clean, pack, and handle instruments properly
Participate in quality‑improvement activities
Assist with administrative tasks as necessary
Requirements
Minimum of a high school diploma or GED
Active FL Phlebotomy Certificate preferred
1+ years’ experience working clinically as a CNA
Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Safety and Health Institute is required
Valid government or state photo ID
Summary This individual procures and processes specimens to be analyzed in our lab at MCR Health or shipped to the regional lab with the knowledge and skills necessary to assure accuracy in results, reporting, and billing. This individual may have to float to sites as needed in the direction of the Department Head or designee.
