Position Summary The Human Resources Generalist provides support and direction in application of Human Resources policies and procedures in a consistent, fair, and legal manner. Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to leaves of absence; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; recognition and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and management, referring more complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
Investigate, review and document employee complaints, including claims of discrimination and harassment.
Attend and participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations. Review and assess corrective action and termination requests. Ensure proper documentation is provided and processed appropriately.
Administer and maintain Leaves of Absence, the transitional work program, and accommodation process per company, state and federal guidelines.
Manage workers compensation claims including regular communication with injured employee, industrial clinic medical personnel, management staff, and insurance claims adjusters to ensure effective monitoring and handling of claims.
Respond to unemployment insurance claim inquiries and attend hearings as necessary.
Provide pro‑active planning, day‑to‑day solutions and HR guidance to managerial and non‑managerial staff members, keeping within the scope of laws, regulations and policies.
Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
Conduct or acquire background checks and employee/volunteer eligibility verifications and manage proper communications/responses when background checks are questionable.
Provide support as needed in staff recruitment process.
Provide support as needed in benefits administration.
Provide support in other administrative duties, such as data collection, HRM data entry, report writing, employee badges, employee files and filing, etc.
Conduct employee training programs including but not limited to New Hire Orientation, harassment prevention, leadership development, etc.
Perform audit and compliance functions as requested.
Administer and track employee licenses and certifications via Paycom and hard copies as needed.
Run monthly reports from Paycom such as Activity Report, New Hires, Terminations, Employee Contact Information, etc.
Customer Interaction / Problem‑Solving Must maintain a high standard for conscientious, courteous, and enthusiastic service to internal and external customers, and the public in general. Must make customers needs a high priority in face‑to‑face or telephone contact. Must consistently deliver service in a timely, accurate, professional, and friendly manner. Demonstrates a high level of problem‑solving skills.
Complexity Work mostly includes various duties involving different and unrelated processes and methods. Decisions on what needs to be done frequently require analysis of the subject in each assignment, and chosen course of action may be selected from several alternatives. Work involves conditions and elements that must be analyzed to identify interrelationships. Work may often include varied duties requiring many different and unrelated processes and methods such as those relating to aspects of administrative or professional fields. Decisions by the employee as to what needs to be done include assessment of unusual circumstances, variations in approach, and incomplete or conflicting data.
Nature and Extent of Supervision Overall, objectives and resource allocations are determined by the Supervisor, providing broad administrative direction, with assignments given in terms of broadly defined missions or functions. Employee plans, designs and carries out programs, projects, studies, or other work independently. Results are considered technically sound by virtue of the employee’s expertise, and are generally accepted with review only for conformity to objectives, contribution to program goals, or advancement of technological understanding.
