Position Summary Reporting to the Medical Director for clinical oversight and directly to the VP, Clinical Director for administrative oversight, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for overseeing and leading members of the medical team to meet the health needs of patients. The RN will provide services to clients in an SUD treatment facility specializing in caring for clients experiencing substance use disorders (SUDs), detoxification needs, health, and mental health challenges. The RN will play a critical role in assessing clients for MAT services (medication‑assisted treatment) and providing comprehensive nursing care, administering medications, medical care, and MAT coordination, and supporting clients through the recovery process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Oversees all medical staff (Nursing managers, LVN’s, nursing coordinator) to ensure the accurate and timely preparation and maintenance of all medical records. In partnership with QA reviews and conducts chart reviews to provide education and feedback to supervisees at minimum once a month.

Responsible for onboarding new staff and training nursing staff to oversee and implement self‑administration of medication and ensure the documentation and medication logging is completed on time and accurate.

Trains medical staff (Nursing Managers, nursing coordinator, and LVN’s) to provide client/patient care in accordance with program and individual treatment plans and fills in as needed.

Performs supervisory duties including recruitment, interviewing, hiring, training, developing, and evaluating department staff; manages performance, conducts performance appraisals, conducts regular supervisory meetings, and recommends salary increases; takes disciplinary measures as needed.

Provide comprehensive nursing care to individuals with mental health and substance use disorders in adult and adolescent SUD setting.

Conduct thorough medical assessments of patients upon admission, including a MAT assessment, physical health, mental status, and substance use history.

Develop and implement individualized coordination plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, focusing on continuity of care for MAT services, detoxification, and stabilization.

Oversee medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers, adhering to established protocols and safety guidelines.

Oversee and monitor medication for addiction treatment.

Monitor patients closely for signs of withdrawal symptoms and adverse reactions to medications, intervening promptly as needed.

Provide MAT education to patients and their families about the nature of addiction, recovery strategies, medication management and MAT services.

Document all patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and promptly in the electronic health care system.

Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, mental health services, including physicians, counselors, and social workers, to coordinate holistic care.

Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings to discuss patient progress, treatment goals, and discharge planning.

Ensure adherence to clinical standards of best practice, licensing regulations, accreditation standards, and other applicable local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.

Adhere to ethical and legal standards of nursing practice, maintaining confidentiality, and respecting patient rights.

Stay updated on current trends and best practices in addiction treatment and psychiatric nursing through continuing education and professional development activities.

Stay updated on evidence‑based practices related to the treatment of substance use disorders (SUDs) and recovery‑based services.

Maintain all required reporting functions and assure 100% completion of all paperwork.

Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal confidentiality laws and regulations.

Attends all required staff training sessions in accordance with Phoenix House and state licensing requirements and completes all training on time.

Attends and participates in program and all staff meetings.

Adheres to and promotes the Phoenix House Mission, Vision, and Values while acting as a role model for others.

Supervisory Responsibilities The incumbent in this position supervises the Senior Nursing Manager, Nursing Manager, Nursing Coordinator, and Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN).

Education / Experience / Credentials

Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of California.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.

Experience working with individuals with co‑occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

Specialty training in special populations including HIV/AIDS preferred.

Specialty training in substance abuse and/or mental health, MAT – Medication for Addiction Treatment and psychiatric medications preferred.

Must maintain a valid credential (if required for your position) during your employment.

Must obtain TB test clearance and update on a yearly basis.

Must maintain a valid California Driver’s License, have proof of automobile insurance, and maintain a safe driving record based on Phoenix House policy.
