Zachry Engineering Corporation (ZEC) is looking for a detail-oriented
Planner/Scheduler
who is highly qualified in scheduling engineering projects to work in our Charlotte, NC Design Center. This is a great opportunity to work on challenging projects for well-known clients in the industry. This role, in our engineering group, will produce and maintain all cost and schedule functions, both internal and external, on assigned projects while maintaining company standards.
Responsibilities
Assist the project manager in developing project scope of work for required Project Controls tasks
Study and understand all relevant project documents pertaining to the preparation of schedules
Work with all relevant project and discipline personnel to prepare schedules
Convert the scope of work document into a logically linked, resourced project schedule
Prepare realistic, achievable schedules using logical networks and where necessary integrate engineering, procurement, and construction schedules with an emphasis on the engineering and procurement pieces
Develop progress curves and manpower histograms
Monitor progress against project schedule and prepare progress reports
Collect expended man-hours and prepare Earned Value reports and analysis
Prepare, review, and ensure the timely issue of all relevant reports to stakeholders
Verbally and in writing advise project management and discipline personnel on impacts, and contingencies and generally guide the scopes towards the earliest possible finish
Provide realistic resource forecast data at a project and corporate level
Provide input into the budget forecasting process
Manage cost discipline to ensure accurate and timely control and forecasting of man-hour budgets and ensure that the impact of all change requests is properly assessed and included in the schedules
Participate in schedule and project risk analysis as required
Analyze progress and effects on schedule and advise necessary corrective actions
Qualifications
High school diploma with previous experience in other functional areas
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in engineering project controls within the Refining, Chemicals, Power, Food & Beverage or Renewables industriesExperience developing and maintaining engineering schedules
Experience in cost and schedule analysis
Leads project meetings and makes presentations
Problem‑solving skills, work to resolve complex situations with appropriate management
Requires a working knowledge of project management software, specifically Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Excel
Must have a proven record and experience leading the project controls effort on assigned projects
Must have an understanding of the basic principles of project management
Requires a general understanding of Cost Management, Estimating, and Change Control
Must have a high degree of computer literacy
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with staff at all levels
Dependable by meeting deadlines, working independently, being accountable for work, maintaining focus, being punctual, and having a good attendance record
Maintain a professional attitude and be able to work independently or work as a team member when needed
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
Physical Demands:
Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, video chat, and software systems. Position may include visits to construction sites and industrial facilities requiring mobility (on the ground and at heights) and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hardhat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and work boots.
Employee will work primarily in an office environment but may require occasional travel to off‑site work locations. On construction sites, noise levels will be moderate to high. Job sites may contain the following: light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools, people standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking. Noise levels vary and may include bells, whistles, and alarms.
