Firefly Children & Family Alliance is hiring a
Registered Nurse
for our shelter in Indianapolis. In this position you will be responsible for planning, organizing and directing nursing service. You will also teach sound health education to youth placed in the residential facilities while supporting the Teaching Family Model in order to promote positive behavior change. This position will require no nights or weekends!
Medical Care (80%)
Complete an initial assessment of patient to determine needs. Provides a complete physical assessment and history of current and previous illness(es).
Complete TB tests on new residents at the shelter and employees as needed.
Regularly re-evaluates patient nursing needs.
Initiates appropriate preventative and rehabilitative nursing procedures.
Administers medications and treatments as prescribed by the physician.
Counsels the patient in meeting nursing and related needs.
Provides health care instructions to the patient as appropriate per assessment and plan.
Identifies discharge planning needs as part of the care plan development and implements prior to the discharge of the patient.
Communicates with the physician regarding the patient’s needs and reports and changes in the patient’s condition; obtains/receives physicians orders as required.
Courteously communicate and collaborate with all residential staff, parents/guardians of patients and supervisors in order to achieve healthy day to day care of children.
Residential Administration (20%)
Prepares clinical notes and updates the primary physician when necessary and at least weekly.
Ensures that arrangements for equipment and other necessary items and services are available.
Diligently oversee medication administration processes according to agency policy.
Schedule and accompany patients for clinic days with the primary physician, dentist and eye exams according to state requirements.
Prepare and maintain Health Program, standing orders, medical supplies, over the counter meds, universal precautions supplies and first aid kits.
Conduct trainings monthly for new hires (Safe Baby Care, Safe Sleep, CPR).
Support the Teaching Specialists in using TFM teaching procedures and motivation systems to make progress on each youth’s individualized behavior management plan.
You Have
Minimum of an Associates Degree in Nursing, Bachelors Degree preferred.
Currently licensed to practice by the Indiana State Board of Nursing.
Two to three years working with children
A valid driver’s license and insurance
Clear, effective communication skills
Knowledge of and adherence to current confidentiality practices
Appreciation for and ability to respond to cultural differences
Ability to develop and maintain relevant networks of key contacts
Adept prioritization and time management abilities
