Job Summary The Sous Chef supports the Executive Chef in overseeing daily culinary operations for the University of San Francisco. This role is responsible for food preparation, menu execution, catering production, and supervising kitchen staff while maintaining high standards for quality, food safety, and cost control. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on culinary professional with experience in high‑volume foodservice and a collaborative, energetic approach.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Executive Chef in daily kitchen operations and staff supervision
Assist with menu planning, recipe development, and food presentation
Prepare and execute daily meals and catering events
Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and quality standards
Help manage food costs, inventory, and ordering
Support the rollout of new culinary programs in partnership with company culinary and marketing teams
Participate in client satisfaction initiatives and campus events
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree in Culinary Arts or equivalent professional experience
Progressive kitchen or culinary leadership experience
Catering experience preferred
Experience in high-volume, complex foodservice environments
Institutional or batch cooking experience a plus
Strong knowledge of culinary trends, food quality, production standards, sanitation, and cost controls
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, and email
ServSafe certification strongly preferred
