Chemist – Steel Manufacturing Laboratory
Our client, a leader in specialty steel production, is seeking a skilled Chemist to join their analytical laboratory team. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and quality of chemical testing that supports steel manufacturing operations. Position Summary
Using sound independent judgment, the Chemist will perform testing and analysis within the Chemistry Laboratory to support daily production activities. This individual will be responsible for maintaining analytical equipment, verifying test accuracy, and contributing to continuous improvement in lab processes. Key Responsibilities
Ensure the accuracy, reliability, and calibration of laboratory analytical equipment. Conduct chemical analyses for final steel samples, VIM chemistry samples, VAR/ESR samples, and product checks. Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and standardization of analytical instruments. Prepare samples for testing and maintain sample preparation equipment. Complete daily reporting tasks related to production, hydrogen, and chemistry. Review and update laboratory procedures when necessary. Identify and mark Jominy samples in the absence of metallurgical lab personnel. Uphold impartiality, demonstrate technical competency, and adhere to Quality System requirements. Participate in ongoing analytical testing competency and proficiency programs. Assist in the Metallurgy Lab as needed. Travel occasionally (local, national, or international) for customer visits, conferences, or site support. Follow all company policies, safety regulations, and work rules. Work collaboratively with team members and maintain dependable attendance. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field required. Equivalent experience may be considered. Experience
Prior experience in a chemistry laboratory environment with emphasis on laboratory quality assurance. Experience with X-ray analysis (preferred). Proven ability to manage multiple assignments with accuracy and attention to detail. Seniority Level
