Patient Benefits Specialist

$18.28 p/h - $21.48 p/h DOE, with ability to go higher for highly experienced candidates.

Seeking a Patient Benefits Specialist to actively participate in promotion, education, and enrollment of community members into available benefit plans to ensure healthy communities.

Responsibilities

Promote and educate patients on available health coverage options in clinic and during outreach events.

Inform patients of plan requirements to determine eligibility and enroll patients in insurance options such as Labor of Industries, the Affordable Care Plan (ACP), Medicaid/Medicare and The Marketplace.

Complete all required fields of initial health coverage application per plan requirements and submit the application before the end of the patient’s visit.

Process renewal applications as directed by the Director of Health Connections and provide monthly reports of outcomes.

Perform general patient benefit duties as assigned.

Complete appropriate forms to switch plans and/or primary care providers, ensuring assignment to a CBHA provider.

Document patient encounters in the patient management system daily to ensure data accuracy, track activity, and maintain enrollment history.

Answer telephone inquiries pertaining to patient benefits; research information and respond within three (3) hours or the next business day.

Process weekly self‑pay encounter reports to ensure patients are offered appropriate benefit plan options.

Perform audits to identify errors or discrepancies as assigned by the Director of Health Connections on ACP applications.

Other duties as assigned.

Promote a positive work culture and uphold clinic policies and procedures, including the WE CARE standards of behavior.

Professional and Technical Knowledge

Basic written and verbal communication skills, computer proficiency, and mathematical knowledge typical of a high school program.

Ability to learn and understand the various health care plans available to patients (e.g., Labor and Industries, Affordable Care Plan (ACP), Medicaid/Medicare, and the Marketplace).

Licenses & Certification Ability to obtain and maintain Navigator Certification for the Washington State Healthcare Exchange.

Technical Skills

Prepare basic documents in Microsoft Word, including tables, charts, graphs, and other elements.

Use basic Microsoft Excel functions to create tables and simple displays of information.

Use basic functions in Microsoft PowerPoint.

Communication Skills

Effectively communicate complex concepts in a clear, effective manner for a general audience.

Effectively communicate information in written (including electronic) correspondence.

Provide effective communication during informal and formal verbal presentations.

Effectively interview and gather information from patients.

Bilingual (read, write, speak) in English and Spanish.
