Platter is a New York City-based Shopify Plus agency. We design and build Shopify stores that convert better, are easier to manage, and cost less to maintain. Trusted by more than 175 brands—from startups to Fortune 100 companies—our clients include Neuro, Every Man Jack, and Ministry of Supply. Our mission is to simplify e-commerce operations and drive sustainable growth.
About the Role
We’re looking for a technically minded and detail-driven
Technical Business Analyst
to join our Support and Retainer teams. This hybrid role combines analytical thinking with hands‑on Shopify experience. You’ll turn project briefs and designs into clear Functional Specification Documents (FSDs) for developers — and you’ll also configure or build features directly within Shopify themes when needed. You’ll collaborate closely with Project Managers, developers, and designers to keep tasks moving smoothly and accurately. While Project Managers remain the primary client contact, you’ll engage with clients regularly via email or Slack for clarifications, technical follow‑ups, and occasional urgent issues. What You’ll Do
Functional Specification & Analysis
Review project briefs, tasks, and designs provided by Project Managers. Translate business and design inputs into detailed Functional Specification Documents (FSDs) with clear requirements and acceptance criteria. Partner with developers to validate feasibility and ensure accurate estimates. Maintain clarity and consistency across all documentation and tickets. Theme & Content Management
Configure and implement content or feature updates directly within Shopify themes. Manage layout and design adjustments, metafields, and theme settings. Assess whether changes can be made live or require staging themes based on risk and complexity. Document all theme changes clearly for internal and external visibility. Communicate with clients via email and Slack to clarify requirements, answer technical questions, or handle urgent support issues. Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure timelines, dependencies, and task statuses are transparent. Coordinate with Developers, QA Engineers, and Designers to ensure all work is properly tested, reviewed, and released. Log and manage requests in Jira, maintaining clear context and documentation for every task. Support Process & Quality Assurance
Assist in triaging Support requests — identifying bugs, configuration issues, or third‑party app conflicts. Create clear developer tickets and documentation for investigation and resolution. Support the QA process by validating functionality before releases. Identify recurring client issues or process gaps and recommend workflow improvements. Who You Are
Strong communicator with excellent attention to detail. Experienced with Shopify (or similar eCommerce platforms) and comfortable working in theme settings and metafields. Confident documenting technical requirements and collaborating with both clients and developers. Calm under pressure and responsive in fast‑moving Slack conversations. Organized, thorough, and comfortable managing multiple tasks simultaneously. Familiar with Jira or similar project management tools. Nice to Have
Experience writing Functional Specification Documents (FSDs). Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and Shopify Liquid. Background in QA or web testing processes. Experience in a digital agency or eCommerce development environment. Platter makes it easier for Shopify brands to build more profitable storefronts.
Platter is a tech‑enabled agency helping some of the most ambitious DTC brands build high‑performing Shopify stores. Our productized approach blends a powerful theme and app with a proven process so clients get a custom storefront without the cost, complexity, or slow timelines of traditional agencies. We’ve worked on 150+ Shopify builds across categories like wellness, CPG, and fashion, generating over $1B in GMV for brands like Neuro, Every Man Jack, Gainful, Baboon to the Moon, and Mugsy.
