Professor of Biology (2 positions Merced/Los Banos)
Merced College invites applications for two full‑time, tenure‑track Professor of Biology positions—one at the Merced Campus and one at the Los Banos Campus. Both roles are located in Merced County, CA and offer an annual salary range of $72,387 to $96,951.
Overview As a teacher in the biology program you will design, teach, and evaluate courses ranging from introductory biology to advanced transfer‑level and pre‑nursing science. You will collaborate with faculty, develop curriculum, and engage in outreach and professional activities that promote student success across in‑person, online, and hybrid modalities.
Responsibilities
Provide innovative and effective instruction in accordance with current pedagogy and course outlines.
Inform students of course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance policies and maintain regular, substantive contact.
Maintain and submit required student attendance and scholarly records on the Learning Management System.
Utilize the LMS to deliver, prepare, and grade assignments and examinations.
Maintain and utilize effective skills in instructional design, applications, and methods.
Post and maintain regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy.
Participate in the development and review of curriculum and teaching‑learning methods.
Engage in departmental, area, and campus professional activities and committees.
Represent the college within the community and professional circles.
Participate in learning outcomes assessment to continually improve student learning.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in any biological science (minimum).
OR Bachelor's Degree + Master’s in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science, or equivalent.
Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students.
Preferred
Teaching experience at the college level.
Experience or coursework in anatomy and physiology.
Willingness to teach all levels of biology offered at Merced College.
Current technology skills related to teaching the discipline.
Ability to relate practical and theoretical aspects of the subject matter to students.
