UVU’s Forensic Science Program is searching for a full-time faculty member who is ready to share their knowledge and experience with our dedicated forensic student body. Voted one of the top Forensic Science degree programs in the nation, our mission is to provide an engaged, multidisciplinary, exceptional forensic science education, which includes scientific research, ethical practices, and real-world experiences while upholding truth and justice within the criminal justice system. In 2022, UVU’s program became the first of only two national programs to receive FEPAC accreditation in Crime Scene Investigations, while also receiving accreditation for the Criminalistics track. Our program is dedicated to the engaged learning of our students, providing them the opportunity to not only learn and understand theory, but also understand how to translate that knowledge into a practical “hands-on” application. UVU has the largest student enrollment among public universities in the state, with approximately 40,000 students. It is one of a growing number of institutions in the nation offering an integrated dual-mission model that combines the rigor and richness of a first-rate teaching university with the openness and vocational programs of a community college.

Working under the direction from the Department Chairperson, the individual shall perform the following duties: Instruct students enrolled in the Forensic Science Investigation Program via in-class, on-line and hybrid methods of delivery. Courses to be taught may include a variety of forensic investigation topics such as: CSI Techniques, Crime Scene Analysis and Reconstruction, Fingerprint Processing and Examinations, Footwear/Tire Mark Evidence and Examinations, Bloodstain Pattern Analysis, Forensic Photography, 3D Laser Scanning, Digital Evidence, and any other related discipline. Develop and write grant requests related to Forensic Science; accept assignments and serve on department, school, and university committees; attend faculty and other meetings as assigned; perform other appropriate university and professional service; support the department’s goals and work collaboratively with colleagues in the program, department, school, and university. Maintain currency in academic field(s) of expertise. Engage in professional development activities and assist in curriculum and program development. Foster and engage in collegiate relations with the community. Involve undergraduate students in research. Represent the department and the school at professional meetings and conferences. Provide an open, student-centered, inclusive classroom environment.
Summary Of Responsibilities
Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, online, and laboratories, through demonstration, discussion, visual aids, individualized instruction, lectures, and other appropriate methods for educational delivery.
Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials. Evaluates student performance using appropriate testing and grading procedures.
Engages in scholarly activities including applied research and produces scholarly/creative work consistent with disciplinary specialization and the academic goals of the department.
Serves the department, college, and university by attending departmental meetings, working on committees, and accepting other service appointments.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a Master's degree in Forensic Science, or closely related academic field, with at least three years of related industry experience.
Must have technical knowledge and field experience in forensic science including crime scene investigation and physical evidence processing/documentation/collection.
Must be conversant in the current issues and entities guiding the future of forensic science.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a Doctorate/PhD in forensic science or closely related academic field. Six months post-secondary teaching experience.
Evidence of scholarly research.
Evidence of personal professional certification or licensing, results of proficiency tests, and professional training certificates must be provided.

Extensive knowledge and practical experience of multiple areas from any of the following disciplines: Crime Scene Investigations, Reconstruction/Analysis, Fingerprint Processing/Examination, Forensic Photography, Footwear and Tire Mark Processing/Examination, 3D Laser Scanning, Bloodstain Pattern Analysis, or any other forensic investigation discipline
Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques for teaching subject matter

Ability to develop courses in Forensic Science/Investigations and assist in program development

Ability and willingness to teach in face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line modalities
