SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST - MSHA Focus Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Safety & Environmental Specialist. The Safety and Environmental Specialist works closely with the EHS team to implement and coordinate and further the safety, health, and environmental program of all of Carter Machinery’s locations and departments. Seeking candidates with a minimum of two years' occupation safety and health experience; Experience leading others in achieving environmental, health, and safety program excellence on a company level; Bachelor’s degree in EHS or related field preferred.

Requirements for the Safety and Environmental Specialist position include:

Intermediate to advanced skills in computer-based technology. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook.

Must be able to learn environmental, health, and safety concepts and provide expertise to branches.

Must be able to quickly evaluate facts and maintain good judgment when making decisions.

Must possess abilityto develop safety policies and procedures to comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) rules and regulations.

Must be able to assist the EHS Team in addressing specific reporting and recordkeeping of regulatory agencies.

Must be willing to work extra hours, including days, nights, and/or weekends to meet business demands.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong leadership skills.

Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple competing tasks and demands. Requires strong organizational skills.

Must have an excellent driving record.

Extensive travel within Carter Machinery’s geographical footprint required.

Physical requirements must be met for the Safety and Environmental Specialist job, including the ability sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Able to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 10 pounds in weight. This position may require reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending and climbing beside, onto and under a variety of heavy equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
