About us: Legal Impact for Chickens (LIC) is a 501(c)(3) litigation nonprofit and a California society for the prevention of cruelty to animals (SPCA). We work to protect chickens and other farmed animals.

You may have seen our Costco shareholder derivative suit in The Washington Post, Fox Business, or CNN Business—or even on TikTok.

Duties and responsibilities:

Investigate violations of California laws related to the treatment of animals as a Level 2 Humane Officer.

Respond to calls from citizens and fellow law enforcement agencies relating to agricultural animal abuse and neglect, and educate the public on animal care.

Prepare and maintain reports, cases, and complaints, and appear in court.

Work with animal owners to improve their treatment of poultry and other animals.

Advise LIC’s attorneys on animal care and law enforcement issues.

Fulfill all legal requirements for a humane officer, including continuing education.

Patrol an area looking for abused or neglected domestic animals.

Conduct factual research online or by watching video footage.

Receive and investigate a complaint from the public regarding animal cruelty.

Collect evidence, photograph a crime scene, and appear in court as a witness.

Give public talks or write blog posts on humane treatment of animals in agriculture.

About the role: Commitment: Part time. Approximately 10 hours per week.

Location and travel: This is a remote, California-based position. You must be available to travel for work as needed, since we will address cruelty all over California.

Reports to: Drew Givens, LIC’s managing attorney

Pay: $25/hour to $35/hour depending on experience

One more thing! LIC is an equal opportunity employer. Applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, age, or veteran status.
