JOB SUMMARY:

Under general direction, coordinates maintenance and repair of and supplying equipment for Police fleet.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Ability to maintain an accurate inventory of police vehicles and aftermarket equipment assignments.

Ability to prioritize daily the preventative maintenance and repair work orders of inventory and transport the vehicle to the appropriate third party provider for service.

Ability to provide basic troubleshooting for problems/issues related to the aftermarket in‑car technology: mobile computer, two‑way radio, mobile digital video recorder, license plate reader system, public address, emergency lights and siren.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Ability to provide the quality assurance check‑out of all new police vehicles to ensure they meet the current up‑fitting specifications prior to being placed in service.

Ability to perform special projects in support of the department such as annual preventative maintenance schedules and equipment upgrades.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Knowledge of fleet replacement and related programs.

Knowledge of P/C based vehicle maintenance tracking systems.

Knowledge of service and maintenance requirements of automotive equipment.

Knowledge of methods, practices and principles of mechanical repair work.

Knowledge of state standards for motor vehicles and equipment.

Skill in recording and organizing data.

Skill in making simple arithmetic calculations.

Skill to print in a manner easily read and understood by others.

Skill in projecting material and supply needs and developing procedures to insure maintenance of adequate stock levels at all times.

Skill in diagnosing defective operations and excessive wear on motor vehicle parts and components.

Skill in diagnosing and correction of vehicle defects.

Skill in communicating with other city employees and the public by oral and written means.

Ability to work with basic P/C systems.

Ability to forecast vehicle maintenance schedules and costs.

Ability to interpret and follow written or oral instructions concerning automotive repair and service schedules.

Qualifying Education and Experience A high school diploma. One year of experience in vehicle maintenance and basic computer hardware. Possession of a valid Texas Operator's License, Class C. Pre‑employment physical includes drug/alcohol testing, physical and MVR.
