Job Summary: Responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and reliable operation of all packaging machinery throughout the facility. This role oversees equipment setup, changeovers, optimization, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance oversight, and operator training. Also instrumental in supporting continuous improvement initiatives, maintaining GMP compliance, and ensuring packaging quality standards are consistently met.
As a Packaging Engineer, You Will:
Prepare, update, and maintain SOPs for equipment operation, setup, changeover, and shutdown procedures
Develop, review, and optimize preventive maintenance programs for all packaging equipment
Verify preventive maintenance tasks are completed accurately, on schedule, and properly documented
Audit PM activities to improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime
Manage inventory of parts, tools, and materials related to packaging equipment
Partner with the Sanitation Manager to develop and refine equipment cleaning and sanitation procedures
Conduct routine equipment inspections to ensure sanitation and GMP requirements are met prior to production
Train operators and mechanics on proper equipment operation, setup, and changeover techniques
Ensure equipment settings and performance consistently support packaging quality, efficiency, and throughput
Lead troubleshooting efforts and coordinate with cross-functional teams to resolve packaging-related issues quickly
Diagnose and resolve mechanical, material, and process issues, including defects, adjustments, and reliability concerns
Maintain clear communication with Production and Maintenance teams during equipment failures or process interruptions
Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations and coach team members on effective RCA methodologies
Support new equipment purchases, upgrades, and installations by providing input on functionality, automation, and controls
Oversee documentation management, ensure GMP compliance, and support ongoing packaging line development initiatives
Skills and Requirements:
Thorough working knowledge of all packaging equipment and its operation
Solid understanding of all packaging materials, including various films and carton types
In-depth technical expertise in the mechanical, electrical, and functional aspects of packaging machinery
Education:
Bachelor of Arts Degree in an Engineering discipline
