This position is responsible for the day‑to‑day management of the Case Management Department. Plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates all intra‑departmental and interdepartmental activities. This position supervises employees or processes by coordinating and overseeing work assignments. This individual participates in the interview process as well as assesses, develops and provides training for new and existing employees. This position has the authority to determine appropriate training needs and initiate disciplinary action. This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to State Law.
Responsibilities
Coordinates the work of an area in the department in mission, vision, and values.
Drives the operation in alignment of goals and strategy of the department.
May manage the hiring, orienting and development of Case Managers and support staff.
May conduct employee evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary processes to align employee performance and behaviors.
Drives operations in alignment with policies and procedures.
Responsible for the training and education of staff.
Accountable for the accurate reporting of time and attendance of direct reports.
Functions as Case Manager and/or Utilization Review Nurse as necessary.
Tracks and analyzes Case Manager quality of service and utilization statistics.
Works collaboratively with information systems personnel as needed to implement case management system improvements.
Evaluates plan of care and monitors quality and effectiveness of care provided.
Assess, plan, and implement strategies for managing daily assignments and workflows.
At the discretion of department operational and patient care needs, this position is required to work rotating schedules, which may include variable hours, weekends, nights, and holidays to meet the staffing and patient care demands of a 24/7 complex health system. Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance during assigned shifts is considered an essential function of the role.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
Demonstrated availability to work variable and rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in a 24/7 patient care environment.
Demonstrated organizational, human relations and effective communication skills.
Ability to resolve staff and scheduling conflicts in order to meet department goals and needs.
Ability to orchestrate multiple tasks simultaneously.
Qualifications
Bachelor's of science in nursing or equivalency.
Three years of Case Management experience.
Two years working as a supervisor or equivalency.
Licenses Required
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah. Must maintain current Interstate Compact (multi‑state) license if residency is not being changed to Utah.
* Additional license requirements as determined by the hiring department.
Preferred Qualifications
Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card through American Heart Association, or obtain within one month of hire.
Certified Case Management designation.
Master's degree in Nursing.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
This position involves light work that may exert up to 20 pounds and may consistently require light work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling or otherwise moving objects involving patient care or medical equipment. This position does not provide any direct patient care. Workers in this position may be exposed to infectious diseases and may be required to function around prisoners or behavioral health patients.
