Development Services Manager
Join our team at Sandy City. This position is part of the Planning Division’s Development Services section.
We are seeking a detail‑oriented professional planner to help bring our Cairns City Central vision to life by implementing our award‑winning Pace of Progress General Plan through Land Development Code updates.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership : Supervise the Development Services section of the Planning Division.
Planning Activities : Engage in a range of professional planning tasks, including:
Current planning and land use
Development review for mixed‑use, commercial, industrial, and multi‑family projects
Site planning, subdivisions, plat amendments, and conditional uses
Architectural review and other planning‑related impacts
Preparation of staff reports and presentations to public officials, boards, commissions, and citizen committees
Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills : Working understanding of basic legal principles of land development and zoning in Utah (LUDMA); knowledge of form‑based codes and urban design; attention to detail; experience with digital review software; compliance with time‑sensitive deadlines; clear and timely communication with a variety of stakeholders; strong prioritization and negotiation skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Education : Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or a related field.
Experience : Minimum of five years of progressively responsible planning experience in local government or a comparable organization.
Certifications : AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) Certification preferred; Class C (Commercial Driver’s License) preferred.
Probationary Period : One‑year probationary period required.
Compensation
Salary Range : $80,412.80 – $120,619.20, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Benefits : Excellent health, dental, and State of Utah retirement benefits. Generous PTO allowance and paid holidays.
