Job Description First Line Leader – General Maintenance Pay Rate: $89,000 - $118,600 (individual experience, skills and abilities will determine placement within the range) Category/Shift: Salaried Full-Time
Physical Location 3203 International Dr. Selma, AL Riverdale Mill is a fully integrated pulp and paper manufacturing facility with two machines producing Brite Top liner and uncoated free sheet, plus multiple process lines (wood handling, pulping, OCC, power, recovery, sheeting, effluent treatment). The GM FLL leads a general mechanic crew of approximately ten hourly team members supporting one of Riverdale Mill’s operating areas, working in partnership with the area E/I FLL to ensure reliable operation of the area equipment. This position reports to the Business Unit Area Maintenance Manager (AMM).
The Job You Will Perform
Lead and direct the general mechanic team in a goal‑oriented environment to deliver results in safety, engagement, and reliability excellence.
Manage team compliance with company and mill policies, procedures, and other requirements.
Approve pay and vacation scheduling for the team and complete other administrative tasks consistent with labor agreements and mill/company policy.
Responsible for team’s time and attendance, performance, and record keeping.
Conduct 1:1s with employees to provide and receive guidance and development feedback.
Identify individual and organizational training needs and implement training plans (hard and soft skills).
Continually assess training needs of crew members to provide learning opportunities.
Coordinate with operations to prioritize and schedule maintenance activities.
Coordinate with AMM and other mill areas to share maintenance resources when necessary to accomplish maintenance tasks mill‑wide.
Coordinate with area E/I FLL to jointly resource tasks and solve problems across maintenance disciplines.
Respond appropriately to off‑shift, off‑day, and maintenance shift problems.
Communicate appropriately to ensure operations is knowledgeable of maintenance activities through daily and weekly planning meetings.
Troubleshoot equipment issues and support identification and implementation of solutions.
Serve as contractor coordinator for vendor or contractor resources when necessary.
Serve as a key member of the MWS team, fulfilling positional responsibilities within the MWS process.
Complete responsibilities in alignment with IP reliability systems (RCFA, PM/PdM, Precision Maintenance, etc.).
Improve existing or implement new work systems as necessary to ensure the sustainability of progress/positive results.
Implement and sustain 5S in designated areas.
Serve on a weekend duty team for the Maintenance department.
The Skills You Will Bring
B.S. degree in engineering or related field, or comparable work experience.
3–5 years’ experience in manufacturing, preferably in mechanical maintenance and/or paper industry operations (maintenance experience in a Pulp & Paper facility is desired).
Previous supervisory experience required.
Completion of the IP Front Line Leader modules or other leadership development preferred.
Ability to manage and lead multiple projects.
Proficient with Microsoft and SAP PM applications.
Active learner and ability to develop direct reports.
Self‑motivated and goal‑oriented team player.
